Mo’ money, mo’ problems! Internet sleuths have discovered files indicating that Grand Theft Auto V’s online multiplayer feature will offer in-game cash for real-world money. As detailed in this Reddit discussion, while the in-game Store feature is currently disabled, the public files on Rockstar’s servers (accessible with a bit of work) show four “cash card” DLC items that can be purchased to add funds to your online character’s account. The cards offer $100,000, $200,000, $500,000, and $1,250,000.
“Cash is king in this town. Solve your money problems and help get what you want across Los Santos and Blaine County with the purchase of cash packs for Grand Theft Auto Online. All purchased cash is automatically deposited into your character’s bank account. Spend wisely, cash therapy is fleeting.”
The prices for the in-game cash is unknown at this time. The offer of in-game cash purchases would seem to suggest that the multiplayer component of Grand Theft Auto V will make acquiring and spending money a focus. Hey, those disappearing car mods don’t pay for themselves! Grand Theft Auto Online releases for free to all owners of Grand Theft Auto V on October 1st.
I knew the $8,000 I spent in Grand Theft Auto 5’s car shop upgrading the bumpers, window tint, spoiler, and adding glossy pink paint was totally worth it to make Michael’s new cotton-candy hatchback. If there was anything that would get Michael out of his mid-life funk, it would be this! Unfortunately, there’s a known issue with the car garages in Rockstar’s criminal magnum opus that made me lose that Strawberry Shortcake commuter car. According to the official support page, they’re looking into the problem.
In the meantime, please try to avoid parking a car in a garage, driving one already in a garage, or getting in a default vehicle, when playing as a character other than the one with your upgrades.
Franklin is such a thoughtful young man. He’ll just steal another hatchback for Michael.
The following article is about a mission in Grand Theft Auto V called “By the Book”. It contains spoilers about the game up to that point, but not beyond.
The root is still hanging on right at the gumline. I pull with the pliers while Mr. K screams and gurgles. Am I supposed to pull the tooth straight out, or just keeping yanking it side to side? I shouldn’t have hidden my eyes during this part of Marathon Man. Ah, I see my problem. The controls indicate that I needed to apply a circular motion, like trying to loosen a fence post.
Then, a comment behind me: “Eww.”
It’s my roommate. He has walked into the living room on the way to the kitchen, and there I am, with a pair of pliers plunged into some screaming guy’s bloody mouth, yanking the tooth back and forth. Well, not me, but Trevor, who I’m controlling. Torture by proxy. My official representative is torturing someone while I look on, pressing the buttons to let him do this, and suddenly someone is looking at me. Why does this feel strangely familiar?

When I started playing Grand Theft Auto V, I thought this was where the review would go. But somewhere on the way to Monday morning, it became clear that wasn’t going to happen. Not because I couldn’t get to the end of the story. I probably could. But because I didn’t want to get to the end of the story. I like this game too much to not let it take as long as it wants to take. In fact, I’m not even sure a review will appear this week. I’m pretty far along, but in the tension between wanting to find out what happens next and wanting to luxuriate in Rockstar’s richly realized San Andreas, the luxuriating tends to win out. If there’s one thing Rockstar’s games deserve, whether I like them or not, it’s seeing them through to the end at their own pace.

Rockstar has reached out to their modest audience for Grand Theft Auto 5 and warned them via Twitter that on the Xbox 360, installing data from both discs to the console hard drive is not recommended. The Xbox 360 version of the game comes with an install disc as well as a play disc. Rockstar advises that only the install disc should actually be copied to the console drive to speed up streaming of data. Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry explained the technical reason for the warning.
Well, optimal streaming is achieved by making use of all the available bandwidth in the system. Why stream just from the hard drive when you can run in data simultaneously from both the disc and the HDD? Based on what we’re seeing on the Xbox 360 version, perhaps running both DVD and HDD assets from just the one source slows down access times, impacting streaming performance.
That PlayStation 3 version of GTA 5 doesn’t require the warning since it ships on only one disc that will require an 8GB install before playing.

One of the neatest things about Saints Row 3 is the ability to “acquire” almost any vehicle in the game and customize it so that it looks like a cartoon version of a car in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Nothing is cooler than my golf cart with huge wheels, bling rims, and gold trim. Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V promises to have an extensive car customization feature which makes my Xzibit senses tingle. Game Informer has details of the options that will be available to pimp your rides in the new “LS Customs” locations.
In addition to the many cosmetic customization alterations such as body kits, paint jobs/finishes, wheels, exhaust tips, window tints, tire smoke color, bull-bars, extra lights, and lots of other extra accessories, we have modifications that will affect gameplay and vehicle performance. Some of the modifications that affect gameplay include brakes, engine tuning, suspension, horns, bulletproof tires, panel armor, and of course, a general repair! There are more than 1,000 modifications in total. And when you’re done customizing your car, you can take a picture of it using the in-game cell phone and upload them to the Social Club.
This make-it-yours customization gameplay extends to your guns as well! Extended clips, ammo types, grips, scopes, and paints are just some of the weapon options GTA V will offer. My inner Saint wants to play in Los Santos!

Rockstar’s fifth installment of their bank robbing, assaulting, pimpin’ open-world havoc creator series finally has an official cover. I’m sure it accurately reflects the pensive journey of a man navigating life’s small emotional moments.
Check it out after the jump in all its criminal glory! Continue reading →
