Qt3 Movie Podcast: Tintin

The director of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull paid an extended visit to Weta’s motion capture studios. The result, Tintin, is exactly what you’d expect from Polar Express meets a Belgian comic book. This week’s podcast also includes a fair amount of talk about Hugo, Young Adult, and more than you’ll ever want to know about the alien invasion yarn The Darkest Hour, from the writer of Ridley Scott’s upcoming Prometheus! The 3×3 of our favorite fake movie products starts at the 58-minute mark.

Next week: our picks for best movies of 2011

Dapper Dan was a doll that had like buttons and zippers so kids could learn how to dress themselves.

    That’s far funnier than pomade!

  • Dan

I loved Tintin as a kid when reading the comics. Saying that, I always thought this was going to be a kid movie. Great listening to Tom and Kelly talk about it.
Maybe one podcast you should have Kelly’s mom and give Dingus the night off. Might be better to get a real chick rater then a wannabe chick. Sometime Dingus sounds like a self-righteous snob. It can be hard to take at times.
Looking forward to next weeks top ten.

Aw, Dingus is most certainly not a snob. Dingus once put a dippy romcom starring Simon Baker on his top ten movies list! Maybe he’s sometimes as self-righteous as the next guy, but he’s certainly not a snob. Except about beer.

Agreed about Kelly’s mom. I’d love to get her on the podcast, but sometimes I think she’s a fictional character Kelly has invented to get in touch with his feminine side. Sort of his own Tyler Durden.

  • Christien Murawski

A snob? Me? Au contraire! I’m the idiot who liked Your Highness and not Tinker, Tailor. To say nothing of Drive Angry. A snob! As if.

I will cop to the self-righteous part, though. You’re rightly annoyed by that. I am too. I think the only one who likes it when I go off on a rant is Kelly, which is why he trolls me so much, and so effectively. His status as a National Treasure prohibits him from being sanctioned for that, however. Sorry.

I’ll third your nomination of Kelly’s mom, though I’d prefer a special feature where we secretly record Kelly and his mom watching that new Conan movie. In the back row of a theater, natch.

In all sincerity, Dan, I appreciate you powering through the hard parts (me) to listen to the podcast. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

I honestly dont understand how the movie is that bad to you. I didnt laugh that hard in a movie for some time. Yeah many actionscenes were too exaggerated and and the way the plot unfolds may be a tad dated, but i like it nonetheless and especially the characters. Maybe its childtime nostalgia from when i read the comic, or its an american/european culture difference thing but for me its astonishing to see it percieved that different.

  • Dan

Unfortunately coming across like a snob, self-righteous or egotistic does mean you have taste. Just mean you “think” you do.  Yes you liked bad movie, great. We all know you get screeners (you bring it up almost every podcast) and you get to vote this year.  So I guess we will get another bad year of winners. Thanks
I just really enjoy when Tom and Kelly talk. Kelly is insightful, even if he acts like he’s not. That’s what’s makes him cool, and Tom well it’s Tom and he brings so much to the podcast. When you talk there is hesitation and it’s hard to listen to. You brake up the flow.

Again I look forward to next weeks podcast.
Looking forward to maybe on day hearing Kelly’s mom on. That would be amazing funny.

Dude, show some class. Dingus was gracious to you and that’s how you come back? Come on.

The thing about Christien being on the SAG nominating committee is something Kelly and I give him a hard time about. He goes along with the joke. You’re really misreading the conversation if you think Christien is a snob, self-righteous, egotistic, or boastful. I honestly don’t see how you get that.

Also, learn to write and spell if you’re going to be an asshole to people who are better spoken than you.

Thanks for that comment, Limper. I do wonder if part of enjoying Tintin involves appreciating the comics. For instance, I didn’t realize that Bianca Castafiore is a recurring character. If I’d known that she figured into Tintin’s later adventures, it probably would have been pretty cool seeing that scene.

  • Pogue Mahone

This is wild!  I didn’t know anybody but myself had seen Surf II – it was one of my go-to comedies as a teenager.  Plus it has Eddie Deezen!  Kelly is slightly mischaracterizing it as a zombie comedy though, it just makes people who drink the cola into mindless drones.

Oh by the way – if you want to watch the movie but can’t be arsed to get up from the computer, you can see it in its entirety on youtube here:

I saw that movie and it was way too long. I actually found it a bit convoluted as well, certainly not for the younger set. Sorry if I haven’t spell checked this, I found it unnecessary for a blog comment. Pretty harsh on Dan I agree with most points. Probably 95% of the gamers I know couldn’t spell if their lives depended on it. I blame texting….Great podcast I am a new listener.
