I’m pretty excited about revisiting Halo again this week. The ability to sprint from later games has been added to this remake, and that should make all the difference in the world in making the game feel more modern. I’m also looking forward to a new generation of gamers discovering that there’s something inherently disappointing about a story in which the back half sees you escaping through the same areas that you went through in the first half of the story. Before you say it, I know that the levels are now at a different time of day with different enemies and weapons and vehicles, and from a gameplay perspective feel like entirely new levels. But there’s something innate in story telling that makes us impatient about seeing the same places again on the way out as we saw on the way in. I think Bungie learned this lesson well, as they didn’t repeat this structure in any future Halo games. 

This week’s other wallet threats are Corsair Cove, a city builder set in the age of piracy, and Relic: First Guardian, a promising Souls-like.

Monday (7/27/26):

  • The Left Behind (PC) – “The Left Behind is a solo and co-op post-apocalyptic survival game.
