Star Citizen unveiled the first-person shooter portion of the game over the weekend. It’s shooty. One would expect CryEngine 3 to handle space marine versus space marine run and gun well, and it does. There’s a bit of jank here and there, but that’s to be expected from an in-development system in a game that’s years away from launching. The module is being developed by Illfonic, creators of the commercial version of Nexiuz.
Chris Roberts’ ambitious crowd-funded spaceship everything game added first-person combat as a development priority way back when the $20 million stretch goal was attained. Star Citizen has raised $60 million from backer pledges so far.
