It's always painful to see good ideas gone awry. And there are plenty of good ideas in Sword of the Stars, a game that tries to recreate that old-school Spaceward Ho! and Reach for the Stars gameplay. What's more, it's from the guys who did Homeworld: Cataclysm. What could go wrong?
Unfortunately, plenty. For whatever reason, the actual game is damn near unplayable. I've spent literally months struggling with it (I've had various reviewable builds since mid June), trying desperately to like it all along. This is my kind of game. In concept, at least.
