{"id":22093,"date":"2013-06-03T13:46:21","date_gmt":"2013-06-03T20:46:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.quartertothree.com\/fp\/?p=22093"},"modified":"2013-08-30T11:26:00","modified_gmt":"2013-08-30T18:26:00","slug":"gungho-wants-to-top-nintendo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.quartertothree.com\/fp\/2013\/06\/03\/gungho-wants-to-top-nintendo\/","title":{"rendered":"GungHo wants to top Nintendo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"fancybox\" rel=\"22093\" href=\"http:\/\/www.quartertothree.com\/fp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/puzzle-and-dragons.jpg\"<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.quartertothree.com\/fp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/puzzle-and-dragons.jpg\" alt=\"puzzle-and-dragons\" width=\"600\" height=\"409\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-22094\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>GungHo CEO Kazuki Morishita told reporters that he wants to surpass Nintendo&#8217;s sales before he retires. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/news\/2013-05-29\/gungho-targets-overtaking-nintendo-as-world-s-top-game-developer\">Bloomberg<\/a> reports that the 39-year-old&#8217;s comments came as he was being interviewed in Tokyo after his company posted Q1 results.<\/p>\n<p>GungHo&#8217;s revenue for Q1 came to approximately $307 million, one third of Nintendo&#8217;s numbers for the same period. While that may make it may seem like GungHo has a long way to go to reach Morishita&#8217;s goal, the company also reported growth of 900% while Nintendo only grew 1%.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I want to make people think whatever GungHo does is fun,&#8221; like they do at Nintendo, Morishita said. &#8220;I respect Nintendo.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>GungHo&#8217;s success is largely built on the free-to-play mobile phone game Puzzle &#038; Dragons which rakes in about $3.4 million a day. It&#8217;s not as popular in the West, but Puzzle &#038; Dragons is the top-grossing app for smartphones in the world. It has remained in the top of the charts since its debut in February 2012.<\/p>\n<p>GungHo plans to bring Puzzle &#038; Dragons to the Nintendo 3DS later this year. Although the 3DS version will not have the lucrative in-app purchases, GungHo has stated that the game is &#8220;targeting children&#8221; to &#8220;increase lifetime customers&#8221; of their brand.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":1684,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[18],"tags":[29],"class_list":["post-22093","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-games","tag-nintendo"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.0 -
