{"id":20367,"date":"2013-04-05T13:18:11","date_gmt":"2013-04-05T20:18:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.quartertothree.com\/fp\/?p=20367"},"modified":"2013-08-30T12:41:40","modified_gmt":"2013-08-30T19:41:40","slug":"peter-moore-says-ea-can-do-better","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.quartertothree.com\/fp\/2013\/04\/05\/peter-moore-says-ea-can-do-better\/","title":{"rendered":"Peter Moore says EA can do better"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"fancybox\" rel=\"20367\" href=\"http:\/\/www.quartertothree.com\/fp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Peter-Moore.jpg\"<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.quartertothree.com\/fp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Peter-Moore.jpg\" alt=\"Peter-Moore\" width=\"600\" height=\"252\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20371\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In response to The Consumerist&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/consumerist.com\/2013\/04\/04\/meet-the-final-4-contenders-for-worst-company-in-america\/\">2013 Worst Company in America poll<\/a>, which appears to be on-track for an EA &#8220;win&#8221; for the second year in a row, Chief Operating Officer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ea.com\/news\/we-can-do-better\">Peter Moore defends EA<\/a> and points out that some of the poll responders may be uninformed or overstating their case. He concedes that EA &#8220;can do better&#8221; but suggests that EA catches more flak because of its enormous success.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Some of these complaints are 100 percent legitimate &#8211; like all large companies we are not perfect. But others just don&#8217;t hold water:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Many continue to claim the Always-On function in SimCity is a DRM scheme.  It&#8217;s not.  People still want to argue about it.  We can&#8217;t be any clearer &#8211; it&#8217;s not. Period.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Some claim there&#8217;s no room for Origin as a competitor to Steam.  45 million registered users are proving that wrong.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Some people think that free-to-play games and micro-transactions are a pox on gaming.  Tens of millions more are playing and loving those games.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; We&#8217;ve seen mailing lists that direct people to vote for EA because they disagree with the choice of the cover athlete on Madden NFL. Yes, really&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; In the past year, we have received thousands of emails and postcards protesting against EA for allowing players to create LGBT characters in our games.  This week, we&#8217;re seeing posts on conservative web sites urging people to protest our LGBT policy by voting EA the Worst Company in America.<\/p>\n<p>That last one is particularly telling.  If that&#8217;s what makes us the worst company, bring it on.
