Yeah, we knew about this, but it still sounds cool. I'm so tired of ACW and WWII that this is really refreshing. I may actually play a historical wargame. Gadzooks!

Yea, this sounds cool! I love history and the historical wars that took place! Not to much into Napleon though, but I might look into this game. But, I want to know where are the Native American based games at? I'm not talking about America or AOE. I would love to see a 3D based war game where you could play the Lakota Sioux, and you would raid small american villages on horseback. Or how about recreating Custers last stand, where you could kick his ass a second time :) Of course everything in the game would have to be recreated down to every last detail. I think it could work, as developers now only produce Alien theme based games. One question, I play some UT mods (Tac. Ops, Rocket Arena) are there any Indian based mods out there that use the UT engine? Thxs!

Benjamin,
Excellent suggestions, but I doubt the topic has enough "mass appeal" enough to attract the attention of a big publisher. The American Indians is an almost entirely unrepresented motif in computer gaming. Empire released a game called War Along the Mohawk (I think this was the title), but I never heard anything good about it. There are some war games that represent pre-industrial, aboriginal armies in combat: Age of Rifles' Zulu scenarios comes to mind.
But your point is well taken. I hope you'll consider dropping an email to your favorite developers to make your voice heard.

Does anyone remember the old Koei games "Nobunaga's Ambition" and "Romance of the Three Kingdoms?" I thought they were the cat's pajamas when they came out, but no one has ever duplicated their system. They also did l'Emperor, where you played napoleon, starting early in your career. Great fun. For some reason, I haven't really been able to get into a hard-core wargame (as opposed to strategy games, which I still love) since Gary Grigsby's Pacific War, around, like, '93 or '94, I guess.

Well, this is a little off topic, but since we started talking about old games:
Did anyone ever play that old text game called "Empires"? You bought bushels of grain and such ... could raise an army, get killed by a crazed mother who's child starved to dead, raid other rulers, etc. I think is was released by PCSoft in a small bonus back. We are taking like late 80's here... it was packaged with "Caverns of Gink" and "PTrooper" at the time.
Just curious. I have been searching for a copy for eons. Hey, how about a future column on ancient dos games you guys liked best, and where they are now. ;-)
