From www.operationflashpoint.com :
Quote:On the joystick issue, after testing the game with some devices we found that joysticks/gamepads/wheels were not working well in the game. Because of the huge number of different devices it was decided that we did not have time to make evey single one work, therefore joystick support was left in the game but is deemed unsupported. If your joystick does not work I am sorry but there is nothing that can be done, it is possible that full joystick support might be added in a future update. Why your joystick worked in the demo but not in the full game, I have no idea.
We expect the first patch to be available for download in about 2 weeks time. We wanted to hold out until a couple of weeks after release so we could address customer concerns and issues found after retail.
The American version will have extra features and bug fixes that the current versions do not have, however, all current versions will be patched so they are exactly the same as the American version when it is released.
Really its not neccesary imo to have joystick support in the game... its primarily a "grunt" game for soldiers. the vehicle controls are fine with a mouse/kb combo.
Try the demo folks! It seems to be getting good word of mouth from the action fans... though it is not your typical R6/Couterstrike romp... the major difference being you play on a map the size of flight sims... not the size of a Half Life map. you CAN shoot somebody at half a kilometer (though its hard). and also your aiming cross does not center on the screen. it moves as you move your mouse... its more "realistic". I got used to it, and love the game.

Still strange though that the demo had joystick support that worked well - at least with my digital F16FLCS/TQS.

ah i did not know they had support for joystick in the demo. Yes joystick support would be good for the vehicle parts of the game... but most of the game really is infantry combat. Ive been reading up on some impressions of the game, most ppl seem to think the game is great, though riddled with bugs. hopefully by american release the dedicated server option for multiplayer will make this game the Counterstrike of 2001 and beyond!
also, btw, where the hell is Wumpus?

No really it was there in the demo. I remember flying the Blackhawk around with my joystick. I certainly wouldn't have used it with the keyboard. (bleh!)

I thought one of the joys of DirectX was supposed to be the fact that you didn't need to program for individual hardware anymore. Is their reasoning BS or do they actually have to program for each device (MS, Logitech, T-master, etc...)?

Personally I think they fucked up and are now trying to cover themselves.
