From the underdogs homepage (http://www.theunderdogs.org/) :
"The IDSA has asked us to remove all copyrighted material belonging to their members, so we have complied. Roughly 320 games are down as a result. Please don't ask us to put them back -- we can't ;) Regular visitors may recall that a similar episode happened to us back in November 2000 (see site history for details). The difference is that this time the IDSA has (finally) addressed us directly instead of our domain registrar, so our removal of games this time is compulsory, not voluntary. Our mail server is down right now, but we will post the IDSA's e-mail (which, ironically enough, accused us of doing "illegal sale" of games) as soon as possible-- so our visitors can have a chance to express their opinions like they have done in the past.
Rest assured that we are here for the long haul, and we will aggressively step up our behind-the-scene "Free the Games" campaign to seek permission from IDSA members, some of whom are already sympathetic to our cause :) We can only hope that one day, companies will realize how little they will lose-- and how much they will gain-- from making out-of-print classics freely available."

...and perhaps they should have considered asking the companies before Underdogs posted the games? Nah, why bother? :-)

There are numerous sites out there that do this that are not as high profile and less likely to be messed with. I grabbed Syndicate a few months back when the discussion about it came up here. I don't recall the site but if you do a search for the game you want plus abandonware you can come up with it pretty quickly.
