We spotted this post from Lowtax on SA's forums:

"eFront has just announced that since they have no money, nobody will be getting paid until at least February 19th.

"As it stands right now, I am planning on closing this site at the end of next week and abandoning it forever. Thanks for everybody's support and emails, but I'm not going to be accepting donations and I don't plan on moving to a subscription / fee-based service. It's been fun being screwed by various networks, but I'm sick of it. In the 13 months I've been doing this site, I haven't been paid for 6 of them, and I can't stand it any more.

"I'm explaining this on these forums because I owe it to you guys to inform you of the situation in the future of this site and the network it's on. Unless I post a follow up topic saying the situation has changed, plan on SA's demise by the end of next week."

Something Awful is the home of the often hilarious Jeff K. parodies. Lowtax's SMARTY MAN VIDEO GAME DESIGNAR "SURVIVOR SHOW!!!" spoof gave us immense enjoyment.

His latest piece of satire has been the Flash-driven game Awfulmon, a parody of Pokemon with your favorite game designers as the "pocket monsters."

Better see this while you can. It may just be a matter of days until it's gone forever.

So is this just the start of a series of websites closing? Tell us what you think.

It's not just Something Awful. Efront also hosts Penny Arcade and some other sites. Penny Arcade told people to back up their favorite strips because they might be there in the future.

Remember, the internet is still in it's infancy. I imagine that we'll be seeing all sorts of changes over the next few years. I think we're seeing a 'natural selection' of sorts.

I'll say it again for those who didn't get it the first time.

Do what you love and let the rest come naturally.

A mercenary attitude towards life will only get you so far.

Heh -- well, you haven't given up your day job, have you? That's the problem that we face to some extent -- doing this interferes with our day job, so if it's not going to be profitable, it's a problem of sorts. But we're trying to work that out.

My situation is a little different-- my first love is development, and a close second is gaming. These are two sides of the same coin. However, I don't think the opportunity cost is any less in my case.

What color is your parachute?
