Why I love Rick Reilly. Here's his take on the Cowboys and the Redskins.

"Combined, both teams would have a hard time scoring on Madonna."

That's good!
I'll play, but not with a quote. Here are a couple facts:

As of this week, for the entire 4 week 2001 season, the Redskins have been outscored 135-25.

In four weeks, San Diego Charger Running Back LaDainian Tomlinson already has more yards than San Diego's leading rusher for the entire 2000 season.

Ugh, the Cowboys don't have that much trouble scoring. Just scoring at the right time. The Oakland game showed they could in fact score, the problem was that they squandered the last four minutes getting one TD when they should have been going hurry-up for two.

Then again, a co-worker made the argument that Anthony Wright doesn't even know the hurry-up, so there ya go. I think Dallas will win be default.

De-fault! De-fault! Woohoo!

If it wasn't for that damn St. Louis the browns would be tied for best record in the NFL. A quarter of the way thru, and we do have the best record for a team without a logo.

And if it wasn't for those damn Browns, the Chargers would be 4-0 as well.

And if it wasn't for the rest of the season, the Packers would have the Lombardi Trophey.

Bah to you all, the Browns and Chargers also have cakewalk seasons. The Packers earned their single loss to Tampa Bay in 120 (relative) degree weather and a game that went down to a red zone effort in the last seconds.

Anyway, that said. I'm extremely happy for the Chargers (I like the Flutie) and I've always loved the Browns (woof!). Also, the end of that Chargers/Browns matchup last week was awesome.

The Pack is back this year. They look good, though I suspect that designated pass rusher is going to get double-teamed from now on.

The Rams just have to make sure they get HFA for the playoffs, because no one wants to go to Lambeau field in January.

Yes Mark, I miswrote. I meant: "And if it wasn't for the rest of LAST season, the Packers would have the Lombardi Trophey."

The Pack does look good this year. But it should be noted they creamed Detroit, Washington, and Carolina. Not exactly threatening teams. Tampa was a test and we failed, but only barely. The good news is that Favre is completing to 8 different recievers per game on average (which is probably very confusing to a defense) and Green is rushing like a madman. They aren't quite Rams quality, I fear, but I think they'll make the playoffs and win the Central.

Hehe, yeah, except for thousands of Cheeseheads. I was there last December when they fought off the Lions. It was 7 degrees with a windchill that knocked it down to -10. It's warm with blankets and in the crowd but, man, that was an amazing day. Must've been awful on the field.

We play the Ravens on Sunday. That sounds dangerous and grueling to me. I'm not praying for a win, I'm praying for no injuries.

Yeah, I'm getting juiced about the Browns, but the question I'm asking myself is do I want to set myself up for all that pain again? To explain: As I'm sure Chet and Erik will understand, growing up a Cleveland sports fan immerses you in what we in the Cleveland Sports Mailing List refer to as the "Cleveland Sports Experience (CSE)." The basic rule of the CSE is that your team will find a way to break your heart, probably in the most excruciating way possible. There are plentiful instances of this in all Cleveland Sports, the '97 World Series being probably the most vivid example. But the CSE finds a special resonance with Browns fans. Want to see a Browns fan shake his head and sigh? Just mention "Red Right 88," "The Drive," or "The Fumble." I'll bet Chet is doing it right now. ;)

Yeah, I know this is a different Browns team, with a different owner and a different stadium. But does it really matter? Probably not. Will I get all excited about them anyway? Yeah, it's in my blood.

But look, you guys helped create the Elway legend!

No kidding. It was also Elway who had the best quote when Art Modell announced the move to Baltimore: "Well, I guess I'm not the most hated man in Cleveland anymore!"
