Where the hell is everybody?

It's always quiet on the weekends. A lot of people read web stuff while at work. On the weekends traffic really dips.

Well... I'm reconstructing coregamer.com from the ashes of my recycle bin. Been at it all day. Nothing to see just yet, but soon... soon.

Other than that... PANTS. I have no clean pants. Must.wash.clothes.egads.

I was spending time with my family. You know.. those people that nag you not to play video games all the time.

Here's a little tidbit from a demo troller:

I just played 30 minutes of Project Eden, and it was a blast. Its a fast and fun interface with Lara Croft puzzles that are actually fun because of the Project Eden gimmick, which is that you get four experts to do different aspects of the puzzle. Its great flipping back and forth getting everyone to work as a team. I liked Commandos, and for a time was a big Tomb Raider fan, so I'm looking forward to this as a possible purchase down the road (say 19.95 perhaps). If they do a good job making the "Sewers of the Super City" into an interesting story then I'm hooked.

Not that I usually post much, but I've been busy watching tapes of the last two SEL hockey finals, playing Eastside Hockey Manager and going through my recently aquired tapes of the sixth season of Xena.

In those two SEL finals there were no less than 13 (and I might have missed some) players who are currently under contract with NHL teams. Which is quite impressive considering the fact that the team which was in both finals (that would be Djurgården, provider of NHL players extraordinaire) accounted for 9 of them (2 last year, 7 this).
Final note of insignificant swedish hockey trivia: In the 2000 playoffs, the final goal was scored by Mathias Tjärnqvist, the following year it was scored by his older brother, Daniel Tjärnqvist.
It feels like I should have something better to do..

So ... is theglobe.com going to be shutting down gamesdomain.com and cgonline.com?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Mark Asher on Monday, August 6, 2001 - 12:35 pm:

Theglobe.com is looking to sell its games properties. They indicated they were close to a sale of GDR. CGO is tied to the magazine so its probably safe.

From the press release, it sounded like the gaming properties are all that's staying until they can sell them. I think theglobe.com is the site that's going down and maybe Happy Puppy. I'm sure we'll know soon enough since the guys from CGM are posting here regularly.

Here's a link directly to the original press release issued by theglobe.com.

Disregard the Happy Puppy bit in the above post. That's not indicated in the release. I'm really tired of news outlets clouding the facts. All anyone knows is what's in that link above.

Well, I doubt that's true, but that's all that's been announced to the public. I wouldn't expect the people who work for the globe magazines or sites to comment here on stuff going on behind the scenes, and they probably shouldn't do so.

From iemag.com

"CEO Chuck Peck told ieMag.com this afternoon that most of the staff of the Happy Puppy and Kids Domain websites have been let go, with a small number of editorial people being kept on to update content and downloads. Peck also noted that the company has a tentative agreement to sell the Games Domain website. Meanwhile, Peck claimed that Computer Games magazine and the Chips & Bits retail division are profitable, and therefore will “remain intact” under the company, though he didn’t rule out that they too might be sold in the future."

According to the press release theglobe will "aggressively" try to sell its gaming properties or partner with someone. I'd guess the latter means that they'd turn them over to someone to run and still retain a financial interest in them.

"theglobe.com's management team is aggressively seeking business combination or asset sale opportunities for the Company's games information properties, including online content properties Happy Puppy, Kids Domain, Games Domain/Console Domain, Computer Games Online, and Chips & Bits, distributor of games and related products into the retail and wholesale channels, as well as leading print publication Computer Games Magazine. theglobe.com will entertain all bids for these games properties during the next few months."

The problem is that this is a terrible time to try to sell this kind of stuff. Ziff shut down Family PC and is trying to sell a couple of other magazines. Advertising's down so the magazines don't look that attractive right now.

I was at Hilton Head Island all weekend:-) If you were there, you couldn't miss me -- I was the "whitest" guy on the beach.

**theglobe.com mess**

Hope CGM (and its editors and freelancers) comes out OK in this one.

Well, considering that most of the people frequenting this board are avid gamers, I'd expect that most of their time at home they are gaming. Well, that or "family stuff" -- both of which limit posting time.

At work, though -- heck everybody has a lunch hour, at least once a day.

Don't get too cared away with that thought. I wasn't wasting my boss' time finishing a project at 10:30 PM the night before I left for vacation at 7:30 AM. I believe most everyone's boss gets their time one way or another.
