Anyone else playing Hostile Waters? I installed it last night and I have to admit, the first few missions are a blast. Okay, I admit it: I get a kick out of ordering my chopper to go pick up a scavenging tank and pull it out of heavy fire to safety, offshore, to my "base" - a rusty old half-functioning carrier that doesn't even have a decent deck gun at this stage of the game.
I never played Battlezone, so I have no basis of comparison. But the fun factor is pretty high for me so far. Plus the first "soul" I implanted in a combat vehicle curses like a banshee. He uses the F word while blowing stuff away.

If you like this game, you MUST get battlezone. Period. However, don't waste your time with BZ-2, it reeks.

Just turned in my review.
4 stars. Not that it wouldn't have been able to talk me out of 5 at some sites, but GDR's ratings policy is that 4 stars is a silver medal winner and 5 is a gold editor's choice... so 4 is as high as it goes unless I bestow it with uber honors.
I also popped a note in there that I'd recommend this game for someone wanting to give a buddy a game and not knowing what he's into... because anybody could get into this. Not that it's "so good everyone must love it" but it's the type of game anybody could play and find something to dig.

There you have it.

I'm having a blast. Been busy packing for a move this week, but I plan to get back to it soon. I love taking control of those salamander buggies or whatever, and trying to find a place with a clear shot to a radar tower/AA gun. Love the game.
Not loving Undying though. It's gorgeous I guess, but ... what's the point of a house whose doors are all sealed shut? After a while it gets comic, him saying "damn, it's locked" 47 times in 10 minutes.
Instead, I picked up a copy of System Shock 2 for $10. Now THAT's a game. And I'm getting the BG2 expansion this week. I love Baldur's Gate 2. I will name my first child "Boo."

I sure hope that more games in the BG2 style continue from BioWare. I know that they are not planning on continuing the "Child of Bhaal" storyline, so probably no BG3, but I would certainly like to see another set of games in that style. BG2 is just so phenomenal.

...just wait until you meet Polito. :)

You know, it's a bummer that they seem committed to leaving the engine behind. The games are so good and the possibilities for its use almost endless.

Yeah, that was really a fine engine. And they used it so well. I was especially impressed when they introduced the two-weapon style. You just don't see that in a PC game very often...It does seem like they could do just about anything with it.
Hopefully it won't die off.
I agree, though. The idea of being a DM is fun.
