Okay, fess up Tom and Mark. Scharmers is responsible for the "Doctor is on" news item on the front page, isn't he?
LOL, funny sh*t. I love Q23.

That's all Mark. He's been a roll lately. Go, Asher, go!

You the man, Mark!
You crack me up. I was at work when I read it and I let out a loud bark for a laugh when I read this. It caused a mild commotion in cube city. ;)
I only started reading GamePen again since they started Flight Sim therapy back up. They do have a pretty bizarre crew on board these days. ;)

I don't write 'em so much as just observe events. I couldn't make up a Jonah Falcon.
By Dave Long on Friday, January 26, 2001 - 10:50 am:
God, I don't think anyone could possibly make up Jonah Falcon. I just discovered his unique "talent" recently. Who would have guessed he's a game review specialist?

"Who would have guessed he's a game review specialist?"
Yes, it speaks poorly for all of us "game review specialists" every where. ;)
By Supertanker on Friday, January 26, 2001 - 08:13 pm:
I actually think Mr. Falcon got ripped off in life. If I could be in the very top percentile of some attribute, especially one that would play a role in defining my person, I'd much rather have Tiger Woods' hand-eye coordination, or Shaq's height and bulk, or Albert Einstein's brain. I showed my wife Mr. Falcon's site, and she recoiled in horror. "Not in a million years!" were her exact words, I think. Then she agreed that he looked like Mickey Dolenz.
By Mark Asher on Friday, January 26, 2001 - 08:19 pm:
Well, Mr. Falcon would probably look at your wife and also say, "Not in a million years" since he's gay. :)
By TomChick on Friday, January 26, 2001 - 08:34 pm:
Doh! Mark just outed Jonah Falcon.

Heh -- well, it wasn't really a secret if you probed his website. Wait, that doesn't sound right.

Guys, you simply cannot have a Jonah Falcon discussion without pointing people to Brett Todd's Oct. 12, 2000 Sports Therapy: http://gamepen.ugo.com/gamepen/features.asp?itemid=54.
With well-earned bows in the direction of Tom and my pal, Bruce Geryk, this is the funniest therapy ever written.

Sorry about that link. It should be: http://gamepen.ugo.com/gamepen/features.asp?itemid=54

No, I just think the content of that particular column was very funny.
Bruce's Therapies are consistently hilarious (as were Tom's, back when he was the Strategic Therapist). FWIW: Since I've never been able to attend E3, Bruce is the only other person in the computer game writing biz that I've actually met in person. (Mention this to him and he'll probably tell you about the time that I was able to spare all of 15 minutes to meet him at a local pub here in Chicago. In my defense, beer has a much bigger impact when you use time compression on it. ;)) Bruce is every bit as fiercely intelligent and funny in person as he is in his writing. I'm not sure what you mean by his heroes, though.

Well, I do like Brett Todd's writing in general, but I linked to that particular column because it has a review of posts concerning Jonah Falcon and his principal attribute.
I agree with you about OMM. I wish they would go back to doing those short reviews (or at least updating their site). But you're right, I don't know which would draw the bigger insult from them, complaining about it or praising them. :)

I just found this thread since I've been furloughed from lab for 24 hours, and have been scouring the site for any and all threads I could possibly post to, except those involving art films. Jason and Wumpus, thanks much for the compliments about Strat Therapy. Wumpus is absolutely right that they need to be shorter. What I could use more than anything is an editor. The way that column works right now is that I find threads I think are interesting to comment on, and I add them to a Word document along with scattered notes to myself, but since I don't have much free time I often don't actually sit down to write the column until I have half-a-dozen threads I want to include, or that many ideas/notes I want to work in. By the time I'm done working everything in, the column is 5,000 words. And I don't know what to cut. I mean, I'm the guy who wrote an 8,000-word review of HOMM3. Who's going to read that? Scary people. Not like the writer, who is completely normal.
As for Old Man Murray, yes, they are the absolute best. And you're right that they hate praise: ever time I write about them I get really nasty email from erik: "Don't write about us! We don't exist! Our secret camp is aside from danger! You will cause a large occurrence!" Stuff like that. Then they threaten me with death. Note that they don't threaten me with public ridicule, since just about anyone would pay to be mocked on OMM.
Actually, I'm kind of exaggerating. As far as I know, Erik does not hate Strat Therapy. I don't know about Chet.
Jason is afraid to drink beer with me because I am CRAZZEY!!!1 Like JeffK.

I've drunk beer on a few occasions with Bruce and have never felt physically threatened. Of course, I did remain on guard the entire time. I mean, after all, he is a soccer fan.
