60 Second Review of…
Red Faction
Tom's review: Red Faction answers the question, "Can
a game be founded on the concept of breaking things?" The answer
is "yes". Although there's some neat stuff in the single
player game with vehicles, the strength of Red Faction is in the
aesthetic appeal of a rocket launcher actually knocking a hole in
the wall. It's all pretty tightly scripted, but it's a gratifying
element that's been missing from first person shooters all along.
Marks review: This game is a tease. Only selected
parts of the terrain are destructible. Where other shooters make
you find keys to open doors, Red Faction makes you blow holes in
walls. Its more gimmicky than innovative.
Publisher: THQ
Developer: Volition
Genre: First person shooter
Requirements: Must be willing to settle with dinky weapons
