60 Second Review of…

Halo (Xbox)

Tom's review: I just can't get past using a console game controller to play a first person shooter. Also, there are no bots here. In Perfect Dark, I could play all those nifty multiplayer modes with bots. In Halo, I have to convince my friends to play a first person shooter on a split screen display with an Xbox controller. Never gonna happen. So I'll just dink around with the single player game for a bit, which is pretty good, and then shelve it.

Mark’s review: I didn’t miss the bots because I was too busy being enthralled by the single player game. I’m not a fan of using a gamepad to control a shooter either, but Halo and the Xbox controller almost changed my mind. Although I never felt like I could aim as quickly and precisely with the pad, I was quite comfortable with it. Movement with the pad was even better than with a mouse and keyboard, and using a trigger to toss grenades meant I never had to swap out my weapon. Halo is easily on my short list for the year’s best games. It also has the most exciting finish to a game I’ve ever played. Let’s hope this one does indeed come out on the PC. Dang, this is a good game.
