Looked into Marverni. Seems interesting, but I dread the idea of having my best mages being old in yet another game. Guess I'm sticking with Ulm.

I'd love to hear how this goes if anyone cares to post an AAR or something. Always curious about how the map plays out.

I probably will post an AAR one way or another. What sort of feedback have you gotten on how it plays? If I remember correctly from the time I went through the whole old Dom 3 thread, Agartha won a game that was played on it a couple of years ago.

Not too sure about this yet Scribble, but I might not have the funds to get into this game at the moment. Right now it's 50/50 whether I'll have the game by Tuesday so it might be a n idea to start looking for a replacement.
Then again I might be alright, it all depends on when a check decides to clear for me. |

I notice Caelum's position isn't rated as being hard, it's VERY hard. If the hardest won victory is the sweetest, winning this will be like drinking ambrosia from the Pantokrator's own cup.

Unless you get the game this weekend and can put some time into it, perhaps we should look for a substitute. Anyone interested in the EA Ermor position? |

If we cannot find a substitute, would it be possible to declare the Ermor territory untouchable and go with 11 players?
also, *paging Evil Steve to discuss standings :) |

Not a good solution. Ermor is quite central on the map, a lot of neighbours, and this would be unbalancing to those next to them. We definately want a human at the helm. But finding a substitute shouldn't be too hard, anyone know any likely candidates?

If anyone else has to bail, I would like to be considered as a replacement. I played one MP game here a few years ago and am otherwise a newbie.

Mavarni has not submitted a pretender and....well I have some ideas, but little time. I'm guessing that it may still be a couple days. Sorry guys.

Still missing pretenders from Agartha, Ermor, Sauromatia, Marverni. Those of you who have not already sent me your email addresses need to do so. And someone submitted a pretender for R'lyeh (?). Hope that wasn't any of you guys, I deleted it. :)

So I've managed to play the first year or so on the Map twice now and I think I'm actually starting to get a Strategy together. Snagged ~8 provinces in the first year and with a bit more refining I'll hopefully get that up to 10.
I still have absolutely no clue as to how to build my Pretender yet though, or what's a normal research speed, or when and how I should be searching for these so called 'magic sites'. |

Awake Great Wyrm, dominion 9, 153 points left over for scales. This is the guy dfs mentioned upthread, he's AFAIK available to all nations. I would generally not recommend it, as its usefulness really diminishes as the game goes on. However he's just about the only pretender you can send out on the first turn blind, and will typically take a province for you every turn. Awake Prince of Death, dominion 9, death 4, exactly 120 points left over for scales. A better choice for an awake supercombatant I think. Need to pick your targets a bit more carefully early on, but great mobility and will become better and better as you kit him out with gear. It's best for nations that start with earth magic, because they can forge a black steel breastplate for him on turn 2 which moves his protection up to 20. In the start against independents you can just put him in a corner and give him orders to holdx5 and attack rearmost, his fear+awe will do he job. Dormant Titan, dominion 7, earth 6 and air 4, 161 points left over for scales. Another take on a supercombatant. This guy really needs a decent amount of gear, so no reason to take him awake. Earth and air provides great self-buffs for him, he can cloud trapeze to intercept troublesome armies and he can forge important stuff like dwarven hammers and staves of elemental mastery. The bless from him can be somewhat useful if you have sacred mages, and he is lightning immune which is always a plus when you start next to say, Caelum. |
