Youtube's new closed captioning is AMAZING

Seems to only be on new videos, so here's a bunch of Mass Effect 2. May be spoilery.

It is obsessed with politics, by the way. I love how when you ask Aria if she runs Omega it translates it as "RONALD REAGAN."

I think this is using the same voice transcription engine as Google Voice. I've been enjoying hilarious Google mistranscriptions of my voicemails for months now.

This is by far the best reason to use Google Voice.

I had a doula client call and tell me about contractions and her cervical dilation. Google voice said, "Okay, buy survey X instead. That'd short and then. I mean, I'm having some contractual this morning so if you need me, like i think in the car, triggers."

That's interesting. The Google Voice transcriptions of VM messages from my mom are always spot-on (she's one of only two people who have that number). Maybe it only speaks Southern.

If this ever gets implemented for Converge video's I'll have to make it a point to go listen and see if youtube has any idea what the heck he's singing about.

Does your mom use a landline to call you? I've noticed Google Voice tends to do a much better job on landline calls than on cellphone calls. I'd guess digital cell voice compression has a negative impact on their success rate. Of course, I don't know very many people who even have a landline anymore.... so it seems like it is something they should really be working to make better.

Does it does this automatically for every video? Because if so, I plan on being much more amused while watching Youtube videos for a while.

Yeah, how do you turn this on? Sorry to be a techno-loser but I don't see a checkbox on the screen.

There should be a "CC" box on the bottom bar that expands to give you closed captioning options. If it's not there, then it's an older video that hasn't been processed for them.

Obsessed with politics?

Like its rivals in the field, most notably Microsoft and I.B.M., Google has fed its translation engine with transcripts of United Nations proceedings, which are translated by humans into six languages, and those of the European Parliament, which are translated into 23. Man, it's a good thing Google aren't evil, because they take some nefarious approaches to problem solving.

"In 2011, for example, it began offering Google Hug, a free service with kiosks on street corners in major cities providing hugs, handshakes, and comforting words to people having a rough day. It allowed Google to collect the DNA of millions of people so it could kickstart its clone army."

A hearty rofl to you nlanza. :)

I for one would hug the google-droids; if there is to be a clone army, might as well be represented, no?

Everything is better with this turned on. Songs talk about nazis, singers sing about killing or being killed. It's a brave new world.

Didn't know where else to post this: Is there a way to make a playlist not continuously loop?

Yes, that is clearly a question related to closed-captioning. I can see why you posted it in this thread, which is about closed-captioning.

How can I loop my captions? I want them to say the same thing over and over. Do I need Photoshop or some kind of CAD software for that?

Bumping this thread wasn't a total loss; did discover one thing: Ignorance is not bliss.
