How disappointing. Because of its pedigree, this was really the first game to make me wish I had a PS3. At least I can hold off on that now.

Damn!
How could they possibly screw up this interesting setting (Nectar)? Looking forward to your review Tom and thanks for the warning! |

Phew, I was thinking there might actually have been a PS3 exclusive that could bait me into getting the system. Thanks for the heads up on that Tom.

I think this title went from multiplatform to only PS3 because Ubi knew of the game's quality and they thought it it couldn't compete against the pc and 360 shooters, so they limited themselves in the PS3 where the less number of games (and less good shooters) could mean better sales, even when the game isn't especially good. Or average.

Then again, it all depends upon the cost of making it multi-platform, if it really did start out as multi-platform, distribution of multi-platform media. Too bad about the game, I had a slight interest in it (an interest that went from being slight to yes, I will pick it up, as this is the only thing that interests me on the PS3). |

Well, at least we have Resistance: FOM as our PS3 Halo.

When you make your game exclusive, a lot of free attention is given to the title. There have been quite a few multi-platform FPS' that have been released this year as good or bad as HAZE that have come and gone without a second glance.

It can't be that bad can it? I've played the demo and thought it was a pretty solid shooter, nothing revolutionary but solid. Could you elaborate on its problems? When I played the demo, I got the impression that it was on par with Army of Two (which got solid 8/10's from most places).

I still can't say - apart from the developer - what made Haze so appealing in the first place. How did the Nectar concept seem more appealing than buffs in any other name? |

I didn't catch it when I read the thread the first time this morning, but a couple hours later it clicked.

Well, fuck.
This was one of two things I was REALLY wanting on PS3. This, MGS, and the fact I have a reasoanble blu-ray supply thanks to work were pushing me to get one finally. I mean I'd been cheering this on since 2006, I still have a box of nectar given out at E3. To hear it's so bad, well, that's a real disappointment. |

To me the concept of seeing things differently depending if you have a shot of "nectar" in your system or not sounded pretty cool. Also the first E3 trailer looked promising -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqk3EmYTKZg (I loved how he smashed the "camera" at the end). |

There are many shooters with buffs.
The fact that you can overdose might be the most unique aspect. Does anyone have a good gameplay trailer that shows the interesting spin Nectar applies? |

Halo with shield buffs, invisibility buffs, etc. I think Doom/Quake might have had buffs. Wouldn't suprise me if Unreal Tournament did as well, but I'm generally not a FPS player. Team Fortress 2 has the uber-buff, though that comes from a teammate. Buffs are pretty damn common. |

Crysis, Team Fortress, Halo - anything that lets you temporarily supercharge a shield, or firepower, or speed, or whatever.
I'm just saying that I don't see what is especially appealing about this particular Nectar mechanic. It seems like it isn't enough to distinguish a game in a bursting-at-the-seams genre. I'm trying, though - I'm really trying. In the interest of full disclosure, I'm not a huge FPS fan. I love good ones, and I figure I can usually recognize the appeal of other popular ones - but it doesn't feel like the Nectar thing is enough to carry this game, and that seems to be the thing people and marketing are focused on. I feel like I've missed something here. Do you have an inspiring gameplay video of the Nectar in action? |
