Halo 3 LE - discs scratched

Apparently the packaging on the Halo 3 limited edition is crap and the discs end up loose inside the box. End result, you paid 10 dollars extra for some scratched up discs. This started off as a thread on GAF, but now gamedaily.biz is now reporting that 3 staffers have recieved scratched up LE discs.

The whole thing is might be a bunch of bunk, or be blown way out of proportion, but its probably worth it to check your discs before you leave the store.

Oh... my bad.

The first and last "Limited Edition" game I bought was Oblivion. Wasn't worth the extra 10, IMHO.

I think the Legendary Edition contains the "Limited Edition" + other crap (like the helmet) therefore my guess is that it's affected as well.

Nah, tin case is the Limited and is what is affected. Legendary has two standard plastic cases that should provide maximum disc support. I suppose people spending $70 on the tin case shoulda ponied up an extra $60 for a playable game.

Excited for picking up your copy of Halo 3 at launch? Spent the extra money for the collector or Legendary tin too, I bet. Well, the folks at NeoGAF have some bad news for you: by the time you get it open, the discs look like they'll already be scratched. Perhaps you won't even need your 360 to put a giant dent in the disc for you.

Blame my "source" if it's wrong since I don't even own a 360...

Dan Amrich over at OXM reporting something similar. It looks like around 3 OXM staffers got bad discs too.

Like anyone's still going to buy it after some chick's blistering review.

Wasn't this also a problem with the Halo 2 SE's?

I got a copy of the LE Saturday, and was scratching my head wondering how the hell my copy got unbelievably scratched up having done nothing more that remove it from the box and play for an hour. Lame.

Not that I knew about. Four of my friends bought the tin case for Halo 2, none of them were scratched. Plus I didn't read anything online at the time about scratching either.

*sigh*

Said the same thing. Now, I'm going to open my case IN STORE, and demand a new one if its scratched.

I remember hearing complaints about the two-discs-on-one spindle configuration causing scratches, but never had any on mine either.

If you watch this video - http://gamevideos.com/video/id/14985 - you can see the problem in action as they open up the box with the disc inside. I would say that a disc floating free like that has a really good chance of getting scratched depending on how much jostling it gets during shipment.

I'll be opening my package in-store and confirming the contents before leaving tonight.

Oh, and the helmet's bigger than I thought. Not so much cat-sized as toddler-sized.

That's surprising, I would have thought Microsoft is deliberately making the helmet too small to fit on any human head. Because otherwise they're sure to get headlines about "CHILD SUFFOCATES WHILE PLAYING WITH HALO HELMET" and lawsuits for 1 billion dollars.

I doubt that you could put it on a human. It has a slot at the bottom that slides over the disc holder thingee so you'd have to have a REALLY thin head (even for a baby) to get it in there.

Is it big enough to put on say, a medium size dog? Just out of curiosity.

The thing is that it's not hollow. Like it's closed at the bottom with a slit just big enough to cover the 2 (or 3, whatever) dvd cases that go on the stand. But I guess if you hollowed it out yourself then you could probably fit it on a small dog.

Mine had scratches too - however it didn't seem to harm the bonus disc, but I haven't got all the way thru the game disc yet so we shall wait and see.

The packaging is sturdy, but the disc holders have a little layer of sponge around them (I would guess to stop scratching - which is ironic) and this sponge means that they are not securely attached.

If I had paid for it, I would have been pissed.

The only way to put the helmet on anything that's not rectangular would be to Dremel the hell out of it. The bottom is basically solid, with a rectangular slot that fits over the base. Too narrow for anything north of a large rat.

Which is a shame, because I had visions of renaming my cat "Master Chief".

I didn't preorder the legendary edition, but my dad did and I have to pick it up for him. Ugh, what a pain in the ass. Microsoft, biggest release of the year and you let this happen? Retarded.

Guess that means since mine got shipped from EB I'll either take it to a store with me if it's scratched up and get a replacement, play it until it stops working, or wait until early december to ship it in for a replacement :P.
