Is Dark Messiah of Might & Magic worth $5? I liked the demo, but got scared away from the full game due to some negative comments like Tom's "Kick it!" review.

Absolutely worth $5! I played it quite recently, and I don't know if they patched some problems or what, but enjoyed it a lot and didn't notice many of the issues mentioned in Tom's review.

Depends on how you play it, I think. I loved it. It was one of my favorite games that year, and I gladly got my full price's worth out of it. However, if you're going to keep using a cheese move like kicking and using it even if you're not enjoying playing that way, then it is very possible in Dark Messiah to ruin your own fun. Tom's argument, I think, is that if it was a better designed game, it wouldn't be possible to ruin your own fun. I'll concede that point. The game wasn't perfect. But I loved it. One of the best first person melee combat games I've ever played, in fact. I also loved using the different spells and combining those with the melee combat.

Dark Messiah CTDs a lot, enough to make me stop playing it.

I didn't personally experience a single CTD, so YMMV. On character development, I invested heavily on stealth, then magic and a bit of melee. It was a blast. I've also been thinking of playing it through again with a more straightforward melee or bow guy just for comparison.

Which is better; Stalker or it's pseudo sequel?

STALKER. Clear Sky had some nice ideas, but it's broken and not very good.

Dark Messiah was actually really enjoyable to me.
Just... don't read Tom's review before playing it. Or you will ruin your playstyle. |

Original is a bit better, but Clear Sky is also good and perfectly stable with latest patch. Plus it has some new good gameplay elements, like artifact hunting, item upgrading..but the atmosphere is not as good (still great though).

Another chance to send out Torchlight as gifts. I was already considering it @ $9.99 so it's an easier decision @ this price.
I'm glad that they brought back some of the titles from previous sales for another (I won't say one last) hurrah. |

FWIW, Amazon's doing their $10 preorder credit thing on another round of upcoming AAA releases including Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 2, I think Assassin's Creed 2 (PC), etc. What annoys me? They're only doing it for the standard editions. Want a collector's edition? Sorry, you're out of luck.
Explain to me what kind of thinking makes that make sense? (I'm annoyed because I actually want the Mass Effect 2 collector's edition. Bioshock 2's, on the other hand, is an extra $30 rather than $10 and as cool as having a vinyl LP of Bioshock's soundtrack is flavorwise, it's completely useless to me as I haven't got anything that can play it.) |

For Stalker CS, the steam page says that it uses DRM, but I don't think the orignial one had it. Can anyone confirm if the steam version still has DRM?

I've been meaning to try playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. again, but I'm not sure where the disc is. I think not having to search for it is worth $2.00.

If the Steam page says it has DRM, it has DRM. And you are correct, Shadow of Chernobyl had substantially lighter copy protection, but they switched to install-limit bullshit for Clear Sky. I hope the same is not true for Call of Pripyat.

Gametap has Call of Duty 2 and I was running through it for fun. I'm realizing now that unmodded Clear Sky is like the grenade spam from Hardened/Veteran, except that quickloads take 30 seconds each time instead of 3. I can't remember what the word is on Call of Pripyat about this.

Toys 'R' Us offers the best deal of the week - again - with a $40 gift card when you buy both Darksiders and Bayonetta. One sounds very good, and the other could be one of the best games of the year. Requires a free membership to their Rewards card program, which you should be able to sign up for at checkout. Start the year off on the right foot by feeding your addiction to buying more games than you can possibly play, like me!

360 Wifi Network adapter only $74.99 on Amazon today!
Is it a bargain when something that should be free but costs $100 is on sale for $75 and actually costs about $4? Whee! |

Wow.. now that the Steam holiday sales have ended, the "normal" prices seem ridiculously high.

It feels weird waking up and not buying any games today.
