Dead Rising vs Saints Row - FIGHT!

Seems to me that these are two of the most fun games to arrive on X360 - indeed, on any system - in quite some time. But which is better? Fight!

Both are must-haves, and are the kind of games that should get fence-sitters off and make 'em buy a 360. I think they both deserve a 9 or greater on the 7-10 scale, based just on how glued I've been to both.

Of course, if you're not ON the fence about a 360, nevermind. :)

It looks like the 360 is right on track with every other console - it's real promise starts to show about 9 months after launch.

Jason I did not expect such blatant apostrophe abuse from you.

Back on topic: I am abstaining my own vote until I figure out which way to go because right now I honestly can't choose between the two.

I vote Saints Row because of the larger play area, greater variety of activities, and because of how much easier it is to ignore the objectives and goof off. But they're both fantastic best-of-system games and you shouldn't and don't have to decide between them. Why decide steak vs. lobster when you can have both?

Yeah, I went with SR but man, what a tough choice. DR is more unique and intense, but fundamentally a shorter experience. SR is open ended awesomeness.

Bob makes a good point about time. Dead Rising does a brilliant job of inducing that feeling of "temporal claustrophobia" with its tight time restrictions. But after all that stress it's really nice to just be able to roam around Stilwater and do what you want and not give a fuck about the time :-)

True. But what Dead Rising lacks in roaming, it more than makes up for in original gameplay.

I like Saints Row but in some ways, I've played it before. What I've never done in a game before is skateboard around a mall filled with zombies, clear a path with an umbrella for survivors, defeat a chainsaw weilding clown, or discover that I can speak rudimentary Japanese.

If I had to chose, I'd go with Dead Rising.

I'm still on my second run through of DR. Between the disk read errors and the retarded, counter-strike-like hostages, not sure I'm going to finish it... But I'd like to try to finish it before I pick up SR.

Capcom and Volition need to team up for a joint crossover sequel. Zombies infest Stilwater and the warring gangs must team up to fight them.

GAMING NIRVANA ENSUES.

So eight people are Dave Long?

Is this like how everybody would be out there saying they were Spartacus?

NO contest, Dead Rising. Saints Row is alright, fun and all, but c'mon.

I just picked up a 360 with both games... logged about half an hour on each, and so far I'm having more fun with Saints Row... the start of Dead Rising is horribly slow, but I'll reserve full judgement until I've spent more time with both games.

Can I just say that reading these boards has caused a significant spike in the amount of my disposable income that I'm using for gaming?

Augh...Qt3...groupthink...must..fight....

I really shouldn't get Saints Row until the next paycheck's in the bank, but you guys have already broken down my resolve to not get it at all. Now it's just a question of when.

Well, I worked up myself into such a frenzy that I would buy anything mentioned ad naseum on these boards... That's how I ended up with Barbie's Horse Adventures, unfortunately.

Yeah this board can seriously damage your wallet. Usually in good ways though. I would never have discovered Chromehounds without QT3, and I love that game now.

I came very very very close to buying Steel Batallion back in the day, though. I'm glad I didn't.

Dave won't be able to tell if his Wii doesn't work. He wants it to work so bad that he will hallucinate rad graphics and versatile gameplay if necessary. If he wanted, he could form his own school of Yellow Bamboo based on veneration of Nintendo. This is the power of positive thinking.
