Jeff Minter's Space Giraffe: Xbox 360
Many of you will be familiar with Jeff Minter, author of such 8-bit classics as Gridrunner, Trip-a-Tron, Mama Llama, Hover Bovver, Iridis Alpha and Meta-Galactic Llamas Battle at the Edge of Time. And of course Tempest 2000 for the Atari Jaguar. Most recently he co-authored the Xbox 360 music visualizer.
Well, he's just posted some screenshots from his latest game, Space Giraffe, due to be released on Xbox Live Arcade later this year (Warning, potentially NSFW) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

It looks like someone threw up on the screen. In other words, classic Minter.

I think I'd describe the game as trying to play Tempest 2000 with Geiss overlaid on top of it, and dropping LSD at the same time as you start quoting Trainspotting's loveable swearing barfighter.

Ah, gaming's most lovable sheep fucker.
I've always wished that Jez San, Sir Peter, and Jeff would team up for a game. |

No, Red Dwarf is "Smeg". I had to look up smegma. I'm left feeling vaguely ill.

There's a clip out there where the actors and writers are doing a Q&A, and a little kid asks "What does smeg mean?" The actors collapse on the floor laughing and the writers flee the stage. It's pretty cool. |

Oh. Ew. I always thought smeg was just an outright made up word.

Yikes. Clearly Yak learned nothing from the mistake that was Tempest 3000.

Wasn't Minter supposed to be programming some visualizer that was built into the 360? Something that came up when you played music through it? Is it actually in there? I haven't tried playing any music through my 360 yet....

Yeah so what's your POINT?
OK fine, so how do you actually pull it up? Does it Just Work when you start playing any random music? Yes, I could just try it myself. Again I ask, what EXACTLY IS your POINT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! |

Ah, Dmitri and Minter. They have incidentally contributed a lot to the Seattle Music Scene. Ian took Minter to a tunnel party to convince him to work for MS. That was fun. That and 5-k worth of speakers.

Somebody linked me this Jeff Minter interview:
http://www.b3ta.com/interview/jeffminter/ Quite demented, but he briefly talks about games, at least. |
