Oh, Winnie the Poo, you are so droll. What happened to your synonym.com copy and paste routine?

I get the feeling that the current events in this thread have passed me by. Should I know who Winifred Kensington-Smythe is beyond what I've learned from a quick google search? Is she (?) being made fun of for any reason other than... having been googled? Is this one of those saga things that I'll have to buy all the back issues to understand? WHO DIES IN THE END?!

I could be mistaken, but I believe that Kunikos took umbrage at my agreement with Mr. Buffa about a movie review paragraph. Apparently, this was reason for him to dig up something I wrote a few years ago to use as an attack. My language, you see, he considers pretentious. Were I a betting woman, I would venture a guess that he's still upset about all those failed vocabulary tests in grade school, and any woman with a functional vocabulary reminds him of his wicked 4th grade teacher, who whipped him unmercifully with a thesaurus.

And in the end, to borrow a phrase; you die, the girl dies, everyone dies. It's tragic, really.

F+. That is all.

Edit: oh, and also I thought someone should point out that GameDaily, the "independent voice of gaming," just got bought out by AOL. Maybe they can afford to hire some real writers now.

... and here I thought I was just making fun of her for being a hypocritical pretentious boob. What the hell do I know, though.

Poor Winnie the Poo, how will anyone know you now that you've dropped your professional name?

I just wanted to to highlight this phrase as perfectly encapsulating how I feel when one of these seemingly random dogpiles occurs. Well done.

Arise!

Words may be hard, but run-on opening sentences are not.

But Steve, it's better to have ten good clauses in a sentence than ten bad ones.

Why is that line even in there? Does Buffa's keyboard not have backspace or delete keys?

I like parentheticals as much as any other hot-blooded American male, but eight is more than enough.

Bonus points for placement:

Though I do enjoy the placement (which is wrong), I'm bummed (that is, upset) that you can't do all of this before the snap (which I certainly would have assumed, what with the NFL license and all). How badass would Madden (the game) be if you could just start hitting people (in the game) before the snap?

Before beginning this post, I sat in front of my computer for at least a few hours plumbing the depths of my mind for something really special and awesome and, dare I say, literary to type, but there was no point trying to dazzle you guys, not for a post that's just going to be swallowed up in yet another thread about how videogame journalism suxx0rs, so let's just get right down to it. Microsoft bought Lionhead.

Buffa's silly, but this is why we have no serious engagement of the, uh, erm, "issue." Because Francine Prose herself could show up quoting from Reading Like A Writer and the animal farm would still bleat like Diogenes on all fours and three sheets to the wind.

I dunno guys. Sure like to give this sort of thing the attention it thinks it deserves, dontcha?

If by "this" you mean "problems with the quality of gaming journalism/reviews/whatever," then "this" has already gotten a ton of attention. It seems like there's a new article about it every week.

It's great that Buffa wants to tackle the issue, but he would be better served by less pithy fingerpointing and more practicing of what he preaches.

EDIT: Hmm...just reread your post...may have misinterpreted it...if so, apologies...

In addition to missing out all the parentheticals, young Thomas, you failed to omit the comma after the word "type." All in all, a C effort in Buffa Mimicry at best.
