Rabbit-proof, Tears, Catch me, and 8 Mile

I have had a little free time this past week, so I saw a hodge podge of movies over the last few days. Hooray for unemployment! I have to say the best of the bunch turned out to be Rabbit-proof fences. 8 Mile and the Speilberg movie were tied for second. Tears almost made me sick, and I usually like action movies.

I enjoyed Rabbit because it was such a surprise. What is up with the title? I almost didn't go just because of the title. My wife played the "it's my turn to pick" card on me, so I had to soldier on. Boy, I'm glad I did. Slow and even paced throughout, with a fabulous last shot. Was this a last year movie? I was surprised it didn't get a mention at the Oscar (although maybe I missed that part).

All the other movies have been pretty much discussed in other threads, so I won't go back into it here. It's odd seeing so many movies all at once. I don't know how you film festival guys can manage.

Rabbits aren't native to Australia's ecosystem, and were introduced by the same colonists that erected rabbit-proof fences. British settlers replicated this problem through their relations with the aboriginal population.

The rabbit-proof fence is still there. It's a huuuuge fence that was erected to keep the pesky rabbits out of western (or southern) Australia.
The movie kicked up a stink in Australia with accusations of inaccuracy and political partisanship flying around. The issue of the 'stolen generations' will be with us for quite a while.
