Total Annihilation Friday night, loser gets banned

OK, enough talk. It's time to do some splodin'. I'm firing this game up on Friday night (5/13) at about 11PM EST so you west coast weenies have time to get home, have dinner and pick up some free Frostys. We're playing standard TA. No Uberhack, no 3D version, no total conversions, none of that crap. Just TA + Core Contingency and the 3.1c patch. And we'll turn the limit cap off.

I'll post the IP address in this thread on Friday before we get started but if you plan on playing post here so I know who we should wait for. This would also be a good place to post some tips for those of us who haven't played in two years and almost forgot about stuff like +shootall.

Until then here are some bunnies in a Corvette:

2 years? Sheesh. I think the last time I played was 5 years, more like it.

Core Contingency? Can I pick that up someplace on a download basis on the cheap? I've got the original disks someplace, gathering dust, I reckon.

Edit: Dude, is that a ghost bunny in the back of that 'Vette?

I am so going to lose, but I'll be there. Assuming it works under 2k, that is.

I would so be in if this was the free version, and I knew how to play.

I'd also be in if there were no Core Contingency requirement: I only found a copy of this a year and a half ago in the bargain bin.

there's a manual here: http://www.atari.com/us/support/faq/...wnloads_pc.asp

as far as acquiring it, i honestly haven't seen it available even in the jewelcase packs for a several years now. if atari isn't actually still packaging it for sale as such, it may be a hard find. :(

.. of course, that's when things like usenet and bittorrent and such come in handy, isn't it? :D

Amazon.com claims to have the Jewel case version new for less than $10, and the publisher is listed as Atari, so I'm guessing there was a re-release at some point. That doesn't help us for 2 days from now, of course.

I'm going to scour Target, Walmart, and Best Buy bargain bins this afternoon. If I don't turn up anything, I'll probably hit TorrentReactor and see if it's available.

Doesn't TA play at blisteringly fast speeds (like Falcon 3) thanks to the faster CPUs ? Will I need a program like SlowDown ?

Oh man I haven't played TA online since Boneyards GW. I'm tempted.

Good maps I remember playing on:

Plains and Passes (always fun with 4 players, lots of metal)
Darkside (for 1 on 1 sudden death matches)
God of War (Classic)

it's not a current re-release, so far as i can tell- amazon isn't selling it themselves, but by proxy for other sellers, so whether or not it's new is probably quite questionable.

i'd be happy to seed a torrent of the discs, but i'm on a slow link (gotta love the slow uplink of a cable modem), so it'd be kinda lame... still, i'd be willing to do it, though. :)

IIRC, TA has an issue with duplicate keys on network games, so you'll probably need to find a KeyGen for it as well.

Not...that I know anything about that sort of thing.

no key required for installation or play - perhaps you're thinking of a different game, but i've never encountered TA asking for a key, ever.

I'd love to play, but you're starting at 2PM and I've got an engagement party to go to at 5. I don't suppose any games are likely to go as short as 2-2.5 hours.

I got my map problem solved, incase anyone here has the same, you need to also install the multi-player spinnoff to get the maps for non-campeign games too.

Got the game and expansion installed and patched, grabbed the nocd, and hopped into a skirmish game on easy. I won, but I am going to lose hard on Friday if I don't read through the manual.

I'll look for you guys if you're still playing when I get home. (Pesky "real life friends" and their so-called "party"--feh!) Maybe the west coast crew would be up for a late game or two?
