Just beat the game. Wow. I loved nearly every second of it.

When you beat the game there appears to be a ton of post-game content allowing you to keep all your items, pins, and upgrades.

What difficulty did you beat the game at? I'm switching between normal and hard , and I think I'm going to stick with normal until the end.

Most of the game I played at normal with my level set to 1 for phat l3wtage (I played at hard from time to time when I was playing well), but I played the final sequence on normal with my level set to 50 due to the final boss.

One thing that has been bothering me, does anyone know a way to auto organize your pins in order of damage? The Psych option doesn't do that from what I'm seeing.

That's been my issue as well with Pin's and clothes. It's currently a pain to look through all your clothes and pins to find the ones you want, or the ones that will give you the best bonuses. Sure you can sort by shirts, but I don't usually need the purple bikini when I'm looking for clothes for Joshua or Beat.

Finished the game last night, very interesting ending only problem is that nothing dropped from the boss. One complaint is that the majority of recovery items seem to evolve into a worse form then their original using combat PP it seems. Which left me at a huge disadvantage at the final boss.

I was up till 4am playing last night.

This is the best designed (ie, mechanics and how they interact) JRPG ever made.

I finally got better at combat by ignoring the top screen. I set her to go auto quickly. And I try to have a pin ready for the glowing green ball, which is usually passed back and forth at a steady rate. Mostly getting Ds to Bs in combat.

I haven't finished the entire game (beat the main story, now going through the extra content), but I'm at 40 hours at this point.

Post game spoiler warning:

How is everyone doing so far on the post game stuff? I like the unlockable reports that flesh out the story more, but it's a whole different experience fighting the GM bosses again on hard. The 2nd to last boss on hard was a challenge and I nearly died 5 times during that fight, a few lucky fusions saved me, and once again nothing was dropped.

My post game pin load out is: that JoftheM pin that you draw a circle with and Neku attacks all enemies around him, the lightning pin that you get near the end, the rhyme pin, 2 healing pins, and a boomerang attack pin.

Playing against the bosses on hard is a quite a challenging experience. I've been playing everything on hard on level 1 to max the droppage, and there have been a few encounters where I've had to play at my maximum level to even survive. (The blue noise fox battle, for example.)

I haven't found favorite pins because I'm too busy trying to level up every single one of them. I have some OCD problems.

Non-spoiler tips for The World Ends With You

These are things I really wish I knew while I was playing the first time through:

- Don't sell your $1, $5, or $10 pins. Their cash value is negligible and they can be traded in for far more valuable items.

- There are stickers that you can use to upgrade your partner's attack, defense, and fusion that must be purchased by trading in a hard-to-find item called Scarletite. The attack and defense stickers are useful, but you can easily improve these stats through other methods. The only way to improve your fusion level is through those stickers. I would strongly advise only buying the fusion stickers during the first play through and not buy the attack and defense stickers until you've beaten the game or are sure you are near the end. (And don't spend Scarletite on anything else until you've bought all the stickers.)

- There is a rare item called Orichalcum that shows up in the late game that can be traded in for powerful clothes and many great pins. Do not trade them in! Save them to buy the "Ultimate" difficulty after you beat the game. Why? Because the easiest way to get more Orichalcum is to defeat enemies on "Ultimate" difficulty. . . which you have to purchase with Orichalcum. If you spend them early, as I did, you'll end up with two or three nice things and no easy way to get any more. (You need two Orichalcum to buy the Ultimate difficulty, so if you have three, feel free to spend one. Just don't go below two!)

Good luck!

edit: Changed adamatim to Scartitite. Whoops.

Crap, I think I did the same thing as you regarding the Orichalcum. I'm now going thru each store and maxing out my friend level with them , I haven't ran into the ultimate difficulty unlock yet.

So do you guys buy junk you don't need for the sole purpose of getting the clerk to like you? I never thought of doing that.

I try to buy every object in the game and I've found that leveling up clerks have three useful benefits:

- Identifying items in their store.
- Revealing new items for you to purchase.
- Identifying items that you're currently carrying. (Especially useful for rare items)

The food and music vendors are particularly useful for the third ability because their wares don't require identification, so they'll often identify things you're carrying.

The other reason to buy one of everything is that some quest items require you to own another piece of clothing or food depending on the vendor (sometimes from another store) to meet the requirements.

Has anyone managed to afford anything from that luxury department store east of the scramble? I've come close to one of their lower end items but nothing yet. I like how one of the clerks says that " no way can children afford anything here"

Boy, I'm on day 3 with Joshua, and my interest has just really dropped. He's just so much more difficult to control.

Yeah, that's where I petered out as well (although GTA4's arrival didn't help). I mean, now I have to do rudimentary math? Really?

Not to mention I really don't like Joshua. Which I guess is sort of the point, but it's kind of like a shooter where they take away your favorite gun. Hey, whoever's in charge, can you sign me up for a new partner?

I found Joshua to be very mashable. I just totally ignored him and concentrated on the bottom, and enjoyed Week 2 a lot more after that.

That is where my resolve wavered the most, but I've found Joshua to be the best combat partner (particularly when he can "jump") and I thought was the most interesting character. Likable? Not really. You want to protect Shiki. You want to punch Joshua in the neck.

Minor spoilers:
Your next partner is a welcome change from Joshua's intellectual smugness, but the their combat system is about as complex, if not more.

Hang in there!

There's one mildly spoilerish thing I would add to that list: There is nothing in this game that you can't go back and do after you finish the main story. At a certain point (You'll know when) bosses will seriously start kicking your ass, and if you get frustrated there's no reason not to take that "Retry on Easy" option.

Same when you get a new partner, because they will have zero defense/attack/fusion stickers and definitely take some getting used to. Joshua in particular is terrible at the beginning but improves a lot, especially when he learns to jump.

Spoiler warning:

By the end of the week Joshua gets a pretty nifty trick that increases his attack power and makes it harder for enemies to hit him, but yeah he starts out the worse in my opinion of your partners. Fighting birds with him in the beginning was impossible, and I had to lower the difficulty to normal. Now he's one of my favorites to take into combat with. Does anyone know what soundtrack 14 is at the music store? It's the one that requires alot of rare metals to buy it.

Anyone know what the blue noise are? I just randomly happened across one on day 3 of the second reaper's game and it kicked my ass all over the floor.

I had to take on that damn blue noise fox on easy as well. Time to revisit him now that I've finished the game and take him on on hard.

Hey DeathMonkey - What store on what day has the "Ultimate" difficulty available to buy?

Small spoiler /pro tip.

When chaining together noises to get higher item drop rates don't put the strongest noise at the end. I believe all fights in the chain get the bonus drop rate. Reason why is that I just did a 3 noise chain fight ending with a blue noise boss, the mulitplier applied to it tore me a new one within seconds. Also nm about that CD, it was #21 and I bought it.

The New York Times today (Charles Herold, in his Game Theory column) hails TWEWY as "not just the best role-playing game ever designed for the DS, but one of the best role playing games ever designed for anything":
