When did Margaret Cho become a political commentator? Why is it acceptable for comics that just aren't funny to be that way under pretenses of political relevance? It hurts me so.

Geez, in comparison to that, everyone here is civil and agreeable. What a buncha loonies.

That's a good question.
When did Margaret Cho become a comedian?
If you don't like fucking free speech why don't you go back to ..... uh... wherever you crawled out of!
It seems we got a few insecure "he-men" on this heah board.
Better question: who is she?
Margaret Cho is Korean, not Chinese.
Do conservative comedians get this sort of illiterate, profanity-laced hate mail en masse?
Wait, are there any funny conservatives? Irony doesn't seem to be a concept the average conservative pundit grasps easily.
Well, I found...

But I can't speak whether or not they're funny.
Margaret Cho may very well be unfunny. Its been a while since I've heard her. However, the Free Republic didn't send emails saying "Ohmigod, you are so not funny."
Oh... wait, is she the chick who has an act about going down South, getting called a chink and then saying "ok, if you're like, gonna insult me, say Gook. I'm Korean, not Chinese"?Originally Posted by Dirt
Ah, yes, the Right Stuff, ha ha. Wrapping themselves in the flag, in tears of joy as "Mah President" steps onto an aircraft carrier.... puh-leeze!
For what it's worth, I think conservatism is a really bad fit with comedy. The few good ones are libertarians anyway.
I think conservative talkshow host Glenn Beck is hilarious a lot of the time. He is also preachy and hypocrytical at other times, but aren't we all.
The thing you have to understand about Cho... she loves getting racist hatemail. Or any hatemail based on any "repressed minority" status (including anti-woman sentiment).
I wouldn't be surprised if she was a lesbian, not out of a desire for women but rather as another "repressed minority" notch in her belt. Perhaps she has to debate with herself whether to go that route or to be bisexual.
I wonder what you would see in her eyes if you asked her why she is what she is.
At least "I'm the One That I Want" is a honest title.

Kevin A. Luss certainly didn't.
Like there's something wrong with licking poon to get source material... or for any reason.I wouldn't be surprised if she was a lesbian, not out of a desire for women but rather as another "repressed minority" notch in her belt.
Nothing wrong with Hot Lesbian Action!

Now the rest of the crowd is a bunch of gimps, but America is mostly gimp-friendly so it works for them. Margaret Cho's written some great stuff. She's over the top just like Michael Moore, but after 15 years of far right conservative humor that makes Gallagher and Pauly Shore look like Robin Williams and George Carlin, she's more than funny enough for the times IMO.
I mean shit, I so slap my knees and bust a gut over a picture of Clinton smoking a joint, why, that's almost as funny as G W in a flight suit.
Now personally, my idea of funny is Jon Stewart and Al Franken, but I'm just a pinko scumbag working with the terrorists obviously.
99% of standup comedy is utterly lame --- "insights" we've all heard before around the water cooler, delivered in a rhythm that lets the audience know when they're supposed to laugh. "Men...and women...they're different! HEL-LOOOO??? What's up with that, huh???"
Exceptions: Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Bill Cosby when he was young, Sam Kinison, and Red Skelton. I saw Red Skelton do an imitation of "an owl who's just found out his teenage daughter is pregnant" that had me rolling on the floor even as a cynical 17-year-old.
Seinfeld does a boring standup act. Good ensemble TV show though. Cosby did some classic stuff way back when... "Buck buck," "Revenge"....
Is that the one about the snowball?"Revenge"....
Yeah.
Hell yeah, Revenge is funny as hell. Cosby was a very VERY funny comedian. It's kind of en vogue to talk shit about him lately, but he's a very funny man.
Although people were offended by and commented on different parts of the transcript, it seems that Margaret's biggest crimes are being fat, Asian-American, GLBT supportive, and possibly female.
Margaret's biggest crime is being not funny. The rest is incidental and irrelevant.
I've had laundry done at Cho's, how about you?
Absolutely not. Its fine to mock someone skinny... you know, calling them Ms. Anorexia and all. Fat people should be taught to be comfortable in their own skin, cherished for who they are, etc.Originally Posted by Lizard_King
Stupid people can only be mocked if they are stupider than "the norm". Thus Regular Joe can get his jollies by mocking Dumbass Joe, or "Reality-TV Joe" in some cases. Regular Joe of course doesn't see himself as stupid... stupid is what other people are.
Smart people can of course be mocked. Since Regular Joe sees himself as "normal and intelligent", anyone who is outside him and not clearly stupid is not so much intelligent as a "smartass", "uppity", "pretentious", "snobbish", "crazy", and in any case makes Regular Joe feel uncomfortable and has thus committed a crime. Since the law does not yet support Regular Joe phoning the police to have them pickup this offender, the comforting terms Joe uses will have to suffice.
Note also that this is why intelligence, though a Minority status, is not a rallying cry for liberals. Being a mass murderer likewise has no support and for the same reason, though at the height of absurdity stands the romantic notion of the mass murderer as "misunderstood". Intelligence on the other hand is universally reviled (by everyone outside the group in question).

Yes, it is. Do you need the difference explained to you?Margaret Cho makes racist jokes all the time, but I guess it's ok since she's Asian and all.
