Don't really see why it'd be necessary or even useful.
Mark and I are curious what you guys think.

Don't really see why it'd be necessary or even useful.
I think it worked so far. Plus there's a number of cross-platform games (Deus Ex 2, Thief 3 etc.) and it would seem odd to split gameplay related discussions (or post twice).
Nah, this works fine.
I think there should be a separate forum for the Phantom! It's the console of the future, I hear.
(giggle)
Maybe a separate forum for jokes where the emoticons laugh far more than anyone else will.
Or for smarmy responses to harmless humourisms.
No, this generates interesting debate and most people here own consoles and PCs, so it also makes for convenience.
Plus, wumpus isn't around to get Dave Long riled up about the Gamecube dying so there's no need to seperate them.
Definitely. Why not? Each sector would inspire more discussion if it's segregated.
No, I think that's the pitfall of the IGN forums. You know what will happen, someone who is an avid fan of A will read B's forum just so they can butt in and say something rude. Then when something goes great with B, they can run over and gloat about it at A's forum.
Of course, the benefit of the doubt can be given here more than there, but I think the setup of the forums (and the whole website actually) is to blame for a lot of the system bias.
I like it the way it is. For those of us who are dual-platform people, it would just be a pain in the ass. There are also many discussions that apply equally to both PCs and consoles. Are we going to have a third forum to properly accomodate them? No, probably not.
The forum is fine as is. I have a PC and a console and have no desire to see the board split.
I'm surprised you'd even consider this, Tom, given your stance on how they're all the same, anyway. I vote no because I'd end up reading both anyway and that's one less thing to click on.
No. I own both, play games on both, and enough of the stuff in "games" is non-specific to make splitting it up a serious loss of discussion.
They're all just fun video games, right?
As an exclusive PC gamer, I love having the console discussions in the same forum because it encourages me to check out what is going on on the other side of the tracks.

I say we have a forum for each platform, and sub-forums for the various genres.
I'd like to see gender and race segregation as well.
No. Anything that bugs Desslock is good, in my opinion.
I'd prefer just one, but if they are separated they should be named "East Coast" and "West Coast." Then Everything Else could be renamed "Can't We All Just Get Along?"
I voted "yes" but that's just because the Games forum is growing too big. I'd read both forums, of course, but it might be a good idea to split the discussion so that there isn't an entire page of little yellow squares whenever I log in... those little yellow squares are so irritating!
Argh, my brain is dead this morning. I just voted "Yes" but I MEANT to vote "No". One single forum is good. Doh.
Dan
And can we get those damn Germans and Swedes out of here and into their own forum? I'd even like to see those swarthy Canadians outta here as well.
No, this is fine. Games are games and I'd hate to miss out on some cool new PC game just because I didn't read the forum often enough
No, if I wanted to go somewhere that broke them up, I'll go to GoneGold.
Vegas has set the over/under on "hey how about we also separate the ________" jokes at 37.
Separation would be seen by many as justification of all the stupid stereotyping of the two, and would promote cliquish bashing in excess. Is there a good argument for separating the two that you (the bulbous Entity) came up with?
No need.
Actually -- ditto what Troy (TSG) said. That goes for me, too.
You're pretty much Canadian yourself, Vermontman.Originally Posted by steve
