I'm at 40 hours and just entering act 4. So yeah it is a decent length RPG.

For Karthal, you must enter for the first time through the main story quest.

To enter the lost city entrance in seahaven, you need to first exit from the other side.

Like a real old-school RPG, it starts out super rock-hard, you are weak and it's frustrating as hell, then around level 25 or so it opens up and You Are Gods. Specialize, get grandmaster. Grandmaster anything is ridiculous. I have spells critting for well over 1000 damage.

It's archaic design, and I actually don't agree with it, because many people will quit early on, frustrated. I would have quit myself if I hadn't hex edited in unlimited supplies. And hex editing a savegame is itself super oldschool, I haven't done that for many years. But they said they were making another Might and Magic, and graphics aside, that's exactly what they did.

Several dungeons connect to the Lost City for some reason. The Karthal sewers, the Castle west of Sorpigal, and I think one more too.

M&M10 has no sci-fi stuff. They're keeping to the Heroes world. The plot is thin but actually pretty neat once you get there.

Early days for me yet but I'm wondering ... should I buy items from the vendors or save the money? Playing on the easier difficulty. I guess you have to save for stuff that doesn't drop, like spells and training - but I see a nice two-handed mace for sale and worry about the likelihood of something so specific dropping in a timely fashion.

After a couple restarts, things are clicking, and my Defender, Bladedancer, Runepriest, Freemage party is making steady progress (currently in Castle Portmeyron). I can understand the complaints people have had about the Defender, but I'm sticking with mine. The higher-tier warfare abilities sound very good, and the only other class that can get grandmaster in it is Mercenary, which just strikes me as terrible due to not being able to get grandmaster in any weapon.

what school/level is Llyod's Beacon? I worry that it may be grandmaster water, and my starter party can't do that.
for a starter party I have barbarian, blade dancer, runepriest, firemage; this gives one of each race but no ranged specialist, and since I gave the ability to grandmaster in every school but water.

    @Piemax2:
    Spoiler: spoiler answer
No Lloyd's Beacon this time, I think. Spirit Beacon instead, which is a Prime Magic spell at Master level.

Can anyone confirm if the GMG version activates on Steam?

Page does not list so and usually GMG are pretty good about providing that info...

GMG version is for Uplay, not Steam.

I gathered Uplay was required regardless, so was hoping it would still register on Steam anyway. Oh well.

Yeah there is an entrance north of Sea Haven along all those winding wooded paths that open up once you have the blessing of Sylvanna.

Stusser, what "main story quest" do I have to get? I have one already from the guy at the Castle to go to Karthal and find out about his informant, is there a different one that unlocks entrance?

Haven't tried it, but i heard no. uPlay games end up playing through uPlay anyway even if you start from steam so i just went straight to uPlay.

The only way to target enemies behind the adjacent, occupied square, would be certain spells. Not any I have found yet (and I haven't looked closely at the spell list).

The game definitely needs better visual indicators for when you find secrets.

The differences between Adventurer and Warrior are stark. I've got 3 times as many potions (of the worst type; I'm only just regularly starting to find better ones), way more money (it helped that I rushed the ID spell, but everything is cheaper too; I suspect more moeny is being dropped), and have only had to reload a couple of times. This has lead me to the conclusion that I definitely need to re-start the Warrior party.

Yeah, it's super annoying because when you quit out of Steam if you don't also remember to close uPlay then Steam continues to track your "hours played" stat. Frustrating.

Anyway, in addition to my above question, I was also wondering if anyone had run into the Free Mage/Archmage promotion quest at all?

So, I reached the top of the lighthouse (that boss is going to be difficult. But, on Warrior, I'm not finding this specially difficult (and after writing this, I'm sure I will find an impossible combat and be forced to restart the party, such is my luck).

But, for the time being, it is not as obnoxious (to me) as other people implied. Sure, it does feel as if you can shoot yourself on the foot and have an unwinnable game, but my Shaman + Freemage + Ranger + Defender party has done quite well, dying 5-6 times to each boss but rarely outside of boss battles. If anything, the no-respawing rule makes this significantly more manageable than the Etrian Odyssey games.

I am a fan of the defenders. Those guys take a lot of hits and don't miss *too* much.

I'm loving it. Only gripe is the limit to 4 party members. I would love a "guild" system ala EO so that you can go to town and change party members.

Finished act 2 and my party is around level 21. Absolutely loving this game! Pretty much everything I could have asked for an a M&M remake. Even playing on adventurer it can be pretty brutal. So far my party is faring pretty well. My druid has been promoted to Arch-Druid and I've just started into the area to get my Crusader to Paladin. I haven't found the quest for my hunter yet and haven't figured out how to get to the area for my Rune Priests quest. My Rune Priest is really the star of the party so far, with so much healing and buffing I can stand up to a fair bit of punishment. I really hope this does well for Ubi and they get the go ahead for another one.

And geez, what is it about those crappy party barks. I understand they don't have a huge budget for voice, but in that case, why did they write the exact same remark for multiple party members to make? That's just plain stupid. They could have spent another 10 minutes of writing time with no extra cost, but instead I have to hear this lame chorus of "who forgot to take a bath?" wherever I go, as if it was a clever remark the 1000th time. For pity's sake....

Yes, just keep following the main story and you will be in Karthal.

I hate the repetitive barks too. But you can't turn them off or you'll miss secrets.

M&M10 is an extremely unpolished game. Don't go in looking for diablo3. It feels like a beta, crashes every 90 minutes or so, performance is terrible, missing tons of pretty obvious features, etc. But it's not like you can go play Wizardry 9 or Bard's Tale 4 instead.

GMG version is the one I got (30% discount!) and no, it has nothing to do with Steam. It's my first experience with Uplay and I have to say so far it's impressing me even less than GFWL. Save game sync hasn't worked in several attempts now, the obligatory 8 Gb patch to play in "online mode" whatever that means crashed during the update, and the profile pages keep giving me 404 errors. However, once you're in the game it's perfectly fine, and as there are no Steam achievements or features, I figured it was one less layer to have to go through.

Unfortunately if you turn party barks off, that also disables the secret notification barks.
I have never had the party say anything at all and had no voices in the party creation either. I figured it was a bug in the creation screen. Is this in options somewhere?

To add my thoughts on the limited supplies: I don't mind them but think a patch ought to add them into the possible treasure and drops.

It certainly has a few warts. But as an opposite example, I've had one crash in 30+ hours played, so YMMV.

While my load times a bit long, I have yet to crash a single time, even with 4-5 hour play sessions.

Yeah, no crashes here either, it's pretty solid. The performance can take a giant shit once in awhile for seemingly no reason at all, and during those times even turning down all the settings to low and scaling absolutely everything down does nothing, which leads me to believe there is a problem with the engine/optimization (as pointed out by others) and there just isn't a lot you can do about it. It's not frequent enough to stop me from enjoying myself, though.

Stusser, how can I tell which are the "main quests"? The mission in my journal to find out about the kings informant has a star, that's the one telling me to find the sewers but of course I cannot - which quest line is the main one you are referring to?

I Believe the star indicates "story quest" but I'm not 100% certain.

So far, I haven't been bitten by many bugs. I've never found the archmage hireling in Seaport. Also, and this is driving me crazy, I have long since passed 10 monsters in my journal with the adv party but I still can't get quest credit.

That's the one. Just make sure you've explored all around the outside of the city. If you want an exact location I can PM you or try to get the spolier tags right lol.

As for the hireling, you mean the one from using the Uplay points? Look in the market area, it's not a person. And she's not all that useful imo. As for the monster quest, It's weird. I don't think it counts bosses or elite versions as different monsters.

Note that you can also go into each character's spell book and uncheck the "hide unlearned spells" option to see what they have to look forward to.
