    GPS modules?

I know this is getting a little far afield, but I'm looking to buy a GPS module as a Christmas gift and am kind of at sea. I'd like a $300-$500 unit that works well, primarily for navigation in the car. Anyone got any tips to offer? Features you must have, pitfalls, any specific models you liked or didn't like? Thanks.

You want a car-only setup, or something you can carry around with you, say, when looking for a restaurant in a new city?

If the latter, take a look at the Garmin iQue 3600 with the optional car kit. For handheld use, the PDA GPS units are generally more sophisticated than the dedicated GPSes--better software and better screens.

For car only, I'd go for one of the DVD-based in-dash units, but that'll probably push you into the $750 range installed.
