    Good military history magazines?

I've got a bit of an urge to read some magazines. Living in Japan, English magazines are pretty few and far between and when you can find them they're so expensive that they make international subscriptions look cheap. I just got my first copy of Backpacker magazine (about $35 for 9 issues) and I gotta say I'm a little disappointed by how much advertising there is. 38 pages of ads out of a total of 98 pages. Is that normal?

Anyways, I'd really like to get my hands on a good military history magazine. It's been a while since I've been back to Canada so I can't remember what decent ones I've browsed through before. I would prefer something that covers a lot of different conflicts (ie not a Civil War magazine) and something that's not focused on just one country (ie only American or only British history). I like all different time periods but would prefer something that focuses mainly on events from the 18th century and on although I don't mind reading about the occasional ancients battles.
Any suggestions? I managed to find Military History Monthly which looks like a magazine that I've browsed through in the bookstores in Canada and looks pretty promising and while it's not cheap (36 pounds/46 international) it at least doesn't totally screw you over because you're ordering from a different country which is nice to see for once.
    Thoughts?

England and France have quite a few publications of general military history, I've browsed them at airports and trainstations. That might not help you out there though.

My girlfriend bought a tablet and a Time magazine subscription in the States. She can now download them at will in England. I wonder if you can find a digital subscription magazine of your interest too.

I had a subscription to Military Heritage for a few years, and it is decent.

By far the best one that I ever found is the sadly-failed Osprey Magazine. If you can find their back-issues, they are really excellent.

Ahh looks interesting. Unfortunately Military Heritage is one of those aforementioned companies who completely screw you over just for not living in the States. You can get a 2 year subscription for almost $10 cheaper than you can get a 1 year international subscription. Rubbish.

It seems like the Military Heritage one is the most promising I've seen so far. Pity they jack up the price so much for international orders and pity it's only 6 issues per year.
The military history monthly magazine isn't looking so great as I just realized that it's a magazine about British history rather than simply being a British military history magazine.

There's also Military History Magazine, which is a bi-monthly mag in the US.

A little more specialist would be a magazine-only sub to Strategy & Tactics, which has been growing substantially (apparently) in it's sub/newsstand base over the last decade or so... also bi-monthly. Not sure about international rates.

I'm assuming you don't read Japanese, but there's also Command Magazine Japan. This has the look and feel of the old Command Magazine that appeared in the states (that also had a separate game edition, ala S&T) but it's still being published today.

I remember Military History Quarterly being alright, but it looks like it's $75 dollars with shipping to Japan. For only 4 issues, it seems a bit expensive.

Neither of these are in your area of primary interest, but:
