Charlie Stross has an interesting blog post up about the possibility (near certainty, according to his argument) that Moore's Law and Koomey's Law will lead to tiny, low-power devices that can blanket the world in computing power. He mentions both obvious and not-so-obvious implications, from loss of privacy due to ubiquitous monitoring to the elimination of traffic signage to highly accurate weather prediction. All this could start happening in the next couple of decades.
Couple interesting things in the comments, too. For instance, #4, who brings up the question of what software will run on all those devices. Or #8, where it is pointed out that all those little devices could generate energy as well as computing power, which could be a revolution all on its own.
