One thing NRA never cares about is the cost to society, if only in money. Car industri as well used not to give a shit, that changed, except in the Us, and we benefit.

The car industry was forced to change by the government and by consumers. Safety legislation and the price of gas were the main elements of change.

No industry should be allowed to "do it's business" if it endangers others through it's negligence. I like the EPA, they just go to far sometimes.

I do think the movement to take away SF's drinking water is pretty funny though.

And in terms of mass, it's even worse.

This was a guy being evicted from his residence. A nut defending his home.
How many people are required to be shot to get the tag "mass shooting"?

3 dead, 4 injured. I think that might qualify.

. . . and I agree, though the initial reports of "automatic weapon" were ridiculous and inflammatory. All we know right now is that he was being served, started shooting, and was killed. Let's wait for more information.

Internet scrape of Thomas “Tres” Caffall III

    http://www.buzzfeed.com/jwherrman/co...t-guns-politic

Yea! From facebook, likes guns, video games, snipers and Shakespeare. Besides the gun collection, take a wild guess what's going to be mentioned in news reports. If you guessed video games, ding, ding, ding. You're a winner!!

    http://www.khou.com/home/Family-of-a...166068236.html

Caffall refused to work after apparently quitting his job less than a year ago, his stepfather Richard Weaver said. He said Caffall, 35, regularly played video games inside Caffall’s rental home near the campus. Weaver said Caffall played video games so much that he lived outside the realm of reality.
    and

Caffall’s stepfather told KHOU 11 News Reporter Drew Karedes over the telephone that he was worried his stepson was going to snap and said it was only a matter of when. When asked if the family ever brought the concerns to authorities he answered no.
Wow the classic my stepson is nuts but I just don't want to deal with it excuse. GG sir.

I posted because there were already 3 confirmed dead at the time. I'm disappointed anyone could argue more than one person shot/injured can't have the title "mass shooting". What matters is this shouldn't be happening and right now Republicans, some Democrats, Libertarians, and Tea Partiests have no intention of making changes to treat the causes. Heaven forbid we work together to fix the ills of the country... and from gang shootings to mass shooting the primary problem is an over-obsession with guns. I think if we had AK-47's back when the Constitution was written the second amendment would read a lot differently.

No, it isn't. The primary problems are income inequality, a broken justice system, and a lack of social constructs that promote happiness. Guns just mean that when someone does snap they do so in a more damaging fashion, but they don't cause anything.

Without disagreeing with any particular part of the above, you do risk diluting the term "mass shooting" if you bandy it about too much, which may have the opposite result from what you propose above. Much like "terrorist" now means "anyone who disagrees with someone in power", you can lose the effectiveness of the phrase if you apply it to all possible situations.

When I hear "mass shooting" I think of indiscriminate gunfire in a public place by a person aiming to do as much killing as possible. If the terms comes to mean "any time a trigger is pulled more than once" then people will quickly stop paying attention when it's used.

That's because people in the UK are dour and stodgy. The US treats people at the bottom of the social rungs much worse than any European country.

No, it's because we're in a major depression, thanks to austerity. I was just highlighting HOW different it is.

Oh, and that's no longer true, we're treating the poor worse. (Heck, you spend more government cash as a % of GDP on the poor than we are now)

I thought of stating those, but often it seems like the people doing mass shootings in the U.S. are white males who have a better chance at a decent life than someone born in an inner city slum. Hope, prosperity, and terrible mental illness care in the US also contributes, but you don't see these kind of mass slayings per capita in other high population countries due culture & government (and fear I'd guess). Brazil & Mexico might be different vs. China, India, Indonesia. Mexico is a different beast since the killings there appear to be more mafia/drug as opposed to random dudes that snap.
