Justin Fletcher's Guild Dwarves defeat Hadrosauron's Fallen Kingdom.
Fumanstu27 defeats Josemas99 with the Dwarvesin a game where I had dice gods with me and Josemas must have really insulted their mothers as I don't recall more than a couple of successful hits.
Justin Fletcher's Guild Dwarves defeat Hadrosauron's Fallen Kingdom.
I just read through the comments by Harkonis, Mark, Tim, and soonanother. Thank you for them!
While playing all three games that Tim and soonanother mentioned (Ascension, Neuroshima Hex, and Summoner Wars) today, I had a thought that relates. I asked myself how often I say, "Oh my God I am a frigging idiot!" during each game.
Ascension: never
Neuroshima Hex: once a week
Summoner Wars: twice a game
That seems like a clear indication of player input -- when I'm calling myself a frigging idiot so often. Ascension just seems to happen, and I watch and enjoy it. Neuroshima Hex has waaaaay more strategy, but still has a see-what-happens vibe. Summoner Wars has none of it, except for the dice.
It could also indicate learning curve. You've probably played a lot more games of Ascension.
Unless I'm rusty, usually the only times I say that in Ascension are when I take a fairly weak center card and reveal something good for my opponent. Part of that is luck, but sometimes I kick myself for getting impatient with a boring center row.
But I called myself an idiot while playing SW more in the past 24 hours than I have in my entire Ascension career. (Ha, "career".. it sort of is!)
You're right about the learning curve, though. At least I'm calling myself an idiot about more advanced things now. Used to be that Gror was killing my whole team. Now it's more subtle stuff.
Invites sent to Chris Gwinn and RainRaven. I'm getting closer to my first win, so you guys had better watch out. :)
Side tournament Summoner Wars - Puddles of Blood is now accepting entrants! If you want to play, PM me your Game Center name and what race you want to play.
From the FAQ:
I know, right?Q: How does the tournament work?
A: Everyone will be randomized into a list until no consecutive players are using the same race. Then each player will play the person immediately above and below in the list. If a player loses both of these games, that's it not only for that player but also for everyone else who is using the same race.
That's racist!
Also now I don't want to join because I'm going to ruin Guild Dwarves for everyone else. :)
@Dave, I'm not feeling the match we have. It seems impossible for the cave goblins to get in the stinking elves.
I may need to edit the deck after our match.
You got 3/4 hits in on my Summoner already! :P
(One of those times I've called myself a friggin idiot, lately.)
I have some serious problems vs GD and CG
awesome use of Sneeks' sneak btw you bastard
Umm Chris Gwinn just discarded one of my Guild Dwarves champions with a Cloaks event on the first turn. Why am I playing this game again?
To be fair, I fucked up the mana in another game against Josemas for 3 turns in a row. I had to let my champion sit there until finally he banished it with an attack effect before I could play it. So I'm used to this by now.
Can't count the number of times I have discarded a champ with spy only to lose. Ok, I can. 4 or 5. Anyway, losing a champ is not a big deal. Losing a champ you have put mana into is a big deal.
Ok good, I feel better now. That does seem like a lot of mana to get all three of them out.
Fumanstu27 defeats Hadrosauron using the dwarves with a sneaky surprise attack.
MNGwinn over deforrestation with vanguard. That was a crazy match.
Oh the anger! Since I hit on a 5 die roll, it'd only logical that I would never hit again. Nice job Chris!
Sometimes I get so excited about attacking I forget I only have 3 turns. I'm still thinking Ascension style about creating combos. With the separate phases and limited turns, I get to the end and remember I'm all out of moves!
Some of the movement special ability UI is really janky. It just let me burn the "move x more if this is the only unit you move" by not going anywhere with no confirmation.
It's just like with special attacks, where it will use the special version if you drag from the right side of the card. But yeah, not very intuitive.
If you're playing on the iPhone it's best to zoom in then perform the move.
I think there are few enough of us playing Summoner Wars that we can just fill out the eight teams and start.
Here is what people have chosen:
Hereafter = Phoenix Elves
Boojum = Cave Goblins
Dave Perkins = Cloaks
Mark L = Fallen Kingdom
deForrestation = Jungle Elves
Vesper is about to pick one of these, but there are two spots left! PM me if you're interested, and it's first come, first served.
??? = Guild Dwarves
??? = Tundra Orcs
??? = Vanguards
Pencil me in for Guild Dwarves. If someone wants to take them and plans to go far in the tournament, I don't want to play in it enough to mess them up.
tooler (Dwarves) defeats Hadrosauron (umm... Vanguards). Boojum did you leave your Summoner at the front lines a turn too long or did you get bad dice rolls? I don't remember how we ended up in that situation. I do remember my heroic Defender tying down my flank for a couple turns. And I remember really wishing I had a wall card to cut off that side of the map.
A little of both. I couldn't withdraw her after the first turn because she was locked down by a defender, and the defender stuck around for a long time because I kept missing it with bad rolls. And whiffing on all my last ditch efforts to kill Baldar didn't help either. Really, though, it was my mistake for getting that close to the front lines.
Also, Hadrosauron (Phoenix Elves) defeats MNGwinn (Jungle Elves)
tooler (Dwarves) snatches victory from the jaws of defeat against josemas (Vanguards). Sorry dude, I know you are looking for your first win and I was all ready to share the love. You may not have known about Baldur's special power (only takes wounds if all the dice hit). It would've been safer to put the Guardian Knight in front I guess.
I see your rematch now. I'm happy to accept.
