And seriously, 3 character slots? what has the world come to. Back in my day we used to be able to create 8 characters or more and had to walk up hill both ways to get to them.

With the skill-based (versus class-based) system that they have do you need more than 3 slots? Honest question for those that have played the game in beta.
Probably not. Each new character would be going through the same content, too. Would be a real drag. Then again I've never understood the MMO players who can play the same game for months, so I 'm not the best person to judge.
Hiya folks!
I am coming over from the Wanderer's forums. I have already pre-ordered and upgraded to the lifetime sub for this game. I have done all the beta weekends and I am in absolute love for this game.
I would be interested in joining a cabal of like minded individuals. As with my name I will be rolling through the game as Bloodright.
Early Access starts on June 29th
Too bad I'm busy on Friday until late in the evening. The Secret World will launch on July 3rd. Everyone who has pre-ordered the game will however get access four days earlier on June 29th. Anyone with a pre-order will be able to get into the game at 16:00 GMT (18:00 CEST, noon EDT, 9am PDT). Players who placed their pre-orders early and anyone with the Grand Master Pack will get access on June 29th even earlier.
Every account eligible for Early Access will receive an e-mail at the time when the account is opened up for access so make sure you check your e-mails frequently on June 29th.

Yep, it's looking like everyone will get in noon EST this Friday.
Which makes you wonder about their previous statements about a staggered headstart. Did they not sell enough pre-orders that a staggered headstart wasn't necessary?
How rough is the game near the minimum requirements? Are those minimum requirements for an acceptable experience, or is it going to suck terribly at those?
Jumped right on the 'Glass is Half Empty' explanation there, eh? :)
I suspect it's because the servers have been rock-solid. In a few months of closed beta, there have been very few crashes, and only a few instances of severe, server-side lag. If the weekend betas accurately simulate those same servers under load, then FC may simply be confidant that their servers can handle it. They've been working with this engine for a while (from AoC).
I have no idea how many pre-orders they have sold. I suspect it's going to be a bit of a niche game, due largely to how many basic things don't work like WoW. Players are going to be put off by the fact that they can only pick up a few quests at a time, many quests provide less guidance than the industry norm, and the character skill system is quite complex. They'll shed many folks quickly. They'll also keep some people based on those exact same 'issues.'
I have a Core 2 Duo @ 4GHZ and a 6850 and it runs on near ultra settings with AA @ 1080p at well above 30fps at all times. The 4870 I had in before that ran on mediumish settings.
The game, like most MMOs, is heavily reliant on your CPU and taxes it when there are a bunch of people around. It does use quite a bit of horsepower on your video card, but you can turn a lot of those settings down.
So, it should run pretty decently on a minimum specced system.
Yeah, I get about 5-10 extra FPS in DX9 mode over DX11 and it really doesn't look all that different. DX11 allows for tesselation and ambient occlusion, but both are resource hogs for what is a very subtle change to the graphics. I think DX11 also allows godrays and more detailed water reflections, but haven't really confirmed that.

Anyone running an Nvidia SLI machine that actually wants it to work with this game should try Inspector. First off, if you want to play in DX11 you will have to add thesecretworlddx11.exe to the default profile because only the DX9 .exe is currently there. Next you want to go to SLI compatibility bits (Dx1x) setting and add 0x000000F5 or 0x02400005 for SLI compatibility bits, which is DX9. Using these bits I nearly doubled my fps in DX11 with everything maxed, with a minimum around 60 fps and the upper end in the low 100's. This is with the 304.48 drivers.
Sometimes I'm glad the shitty wiring in my apartment makes me wary of adding the draw of an SLI setup on top of the two gaming rigs and projector...
Re: Bloodright | Good to see ya. When it goes live, I'll hope everyone posts their name/faction/server to see if we can get any communcation.
Re: DX11 | Agree completely. I switched to DX9 and honestly couldnt tell much of a difference other than swimming in Kingsmouth Bay.
That said, anyone's beta always open in Windowed mode and never fullscreen? hah.
Taking Friday & Monday off for launch! Can't wait.
Yeah, I run mine in windowed mode just because alt-tab usually ends up crashing the client. :(
What's the point of using the decks anyway? Isn't it just a preset of skills for players who don't want to fully customize their skill set (like what Rift does)?
If you finish a deck, you get the deck's outfit. That was the plan, anyway, not 100% sure if that was implemented.
It was. The outfit pictures are here: Deck Outfits (big pictures)

MMmmmmm Templar Executioner is looking promising :)
I thought I remember reading that you can "complete" each deck because its very possible to get every skill in the game eventually...
3 Character slots = Every deck outfit in the game. Who needs 4?
Knowing the wanderers, the majority will be long gone within a month or two. I thought about checking out one of the RP guilds, but I don't know how heavily I'm going to be playing at the outset. I may wait to get involved with a cabal until later. I guess it depends on whether or not my best friend ends up grabbing it.
My first toon will be Illuminati.. after that I will make alts to see the other faction specific content.
Lifetime sub.. so i can take my time :)
I look forward to kicking non-dragon ass ;)
Just noticed that decks are faction-specific :)
Which means there are 3 times as many of them as I thought.
Also, I noticed that Dragon get a deck called "Ninja" - which is about combining Katanas with Elemental Magic....
I just can't resist that - so I'm going to have to go Dragon instead of Templar - damn!
