Man this game is buggy. I actually just died while I was already dead. That's right, running back to my body I fell over dead a second time and had to log out and log back in before it would give me a resurrect screen. I've also ran into multiple quests that weren't bugged the first time through that are bugged this time, stuff like Tango not ever spawning, items not being clickable, etc. It's hilarious because I decided to started to run a second character through Kingsmouth to give Funcom time to fix the later zones and it seems they have plenty to fix in this first area. Then there are un-lootable items, chat issues (still), people stuck at certain ranks, damage number disappearing from tooltips, it goes on and on.

Funcom has about two weeks to get their shit together or they are in trouble. If this were a typical WoW clone people would already be leaving in droves. Right now it's getting a pass because it's different, but people won't be so kind if it stays like this for long.

For Tom and Blah if you come across buggy quests move on and come back to them later. If you want to be assured of completing them look out for the next maintenance period. Log out at the activation spot for the quest before maintenance starts. As soon as maintenance finishes log in ASAP and complete the quest at the activation location. I've managed to complete two long standing buggy quests using this method.

Some people have been stuck at faction ranks because they failed to notice the faction quest to progress further.

Well it does tell you what quest to do for your next faction rise under the character sheet

So Funcom's lead programmer just put up a fairly lengthy post explaining how the chat system works, what's happening when it's not working, and what they're doing to fix it.

On the first, the chat system is basically a bunch of networked servers. With everyone chatting and under load, it splits off players to different servers, all of which take input from the game and put them back up on the game screens.

The problem seems to be that for whatever reasons, sometimes servers stop talking to one another. What happens is a group of players get transferred to a server, and then that server stops communicating with the other servers, effectively marooning those players. Because no input can be received or sent out, it shows no available chat channels and players are hosed. Apparently eventually the chat servers re-synch and it clears itself up.

As for what they're doing about it....they're vague. Honestly, it sounds like they're not sure exactly what the heck is happening, which is a little disturbing. They do make it clear that they recognize the scope of the problem and how important it is to fix it, which is something I guess.

And...I had to chuckle at the guy's final line in the post:

I can assure you we have our top men working on it. Top men.

Its nice of them to at least tell you what the problem is.

Normally they say "We have an issue with and we apologize for any inconvenience caused"

The next MMO I subscribe to that tells me "we apologize for inconvenience caused" I'll cancel immediately.

The more I play, the more I like it.

    I already said that, right?

    Well, it's still true :)

The update on the chat issues (mentioned by triggercut but I wanted to offer a link directly to the source) makes for interesting reading. At least, it explains why they are struggling so much to isolate and kill off the issue and why chat sometimes works for some and not others.

I do hope that those fixes they are working on will pan out though. This is currently very disruptive when we try to group up and play. But I'm not making the trip to Norway with my pitchfork yet.

I'm also one of those who really really enjoy the game.

As a Templar I am going for the Warlock Chaos/Hammer build deck/outfit. I am not sure how much I like the outfit, but many of the skills I am getting in the lines seem decent for what I want to do. After that I will grab the Witch Hunter Hammer/Sword one most likely.

I am still branching off and grabbing some others I like, but mostly working toward these decks.

I am starting to get some brutal lag in Fusang now. In previous large scale PvP games you normally tweak some graphical settings to help with this. Anyone have any experience on which ones work well here? I think a common one is to turn off Names and such. Perhaps that will help some. I actually got less than 1 FPS in a huge battle last night and it gets hard to be effective like that.

In Fusang last night it finally ground to a complete lock up, and I had to kill the game from the desktop. First time that's happened. Also was getting a lot of draw-in issues, where there would be no one in front of me and then, bam!, a whole horde of Dragon would just...appear.

See, that's just how the Dragon operate. It's like E Pluribus Unum. Except the opposite.

Spoiler: Regarding The Dawning of the Endless Night Tier 18/18:
Did any of you guys accept the gift? I didn't but man did I really want to. I mean, I stood there for a really long time trying to decide, even clicking on it a few times before backing off.

I did -- I'm not sure I understand what that signified.

Honestly, this is pretty typical in software development.

And current characters who might end up dying in a future issue. Interesting.

While I'm sure that's true for some, it's not what I'm talking about. Your character can actually get stuck in a state where you cannot advance your faction rank or even complete the next quest. I've seen multiple posts from Funcom explaining they are working on a fix but can't pinpoint the problem as of yet. If it were as simple as "do the quest, stupid" they'd just say that.

Yeah, I spent god knows how long at Rank 2ish because the call for my mission came in while I was in a cutscene, so I never saw it. I just heard some ringing and thought "da fuck is that?" Fortunately, I was not bugged, and once I did some reading to figure out why the hell my rank wouldn't advance, I went and sorted it out.

They need to shunt those calls off in a similar way to the lore, where I can deal with at my leisure. Also, the rank missions probably shouldn't share a slot with action missions.

Oh, THAT's what that shit was. I was wondering. I guess I should return to Seoul and check it out.

Has anyone had luck with the qt3 chat channel sticking between loads? I've stopped joining but would enjoy running some dungeons with you folks.

It goes bye bye like most of the rest of the channels, regularly, at least for me.

I got a ring when I hit the first rank up (the one where you unlock the sprint speed vendor) but didn't hear any of the message. Do I have a faction mission waiting for me at my base?

Indeed you do. Generally its a clickable in the office of your main contact.

Edit: Or not. Best check the office anyway but I think it was actually the faction level 4 bump where the first mission takes place.

Any other Dragons get phone calls from some Korean woman, in Korean? I keep getting these calls that sound like my cellphone has low signal or something, and there aren't any subtitles so I have no idea what she's saying.

Yes, I just took them to be generic "great job finishing the mission" and didn't mean anything.

In other news, I finished up all the quests/lore in Blue Mountain aside from the final dungeon which I'm going to run soon. Kingsmouth and Savage Coast were definitely more enjoyable, but the main story stuff with the Franklin Mansion and then the climax was something else. Oh, and the moon bog? Fuck that place.

Really enjoying Egypt so far. I've already seen a few investigation missions and it seems the map is MASSIVE, like double or triple the size of Blue Mountains. It's also kind of cool I'm not fighting zombies and fishmen anymore. :D

The calls in Korean mean that you've advanced in faction rank.

Yeah, I got that's what they meant. I just found it extremely stupid that there were no subtitles. Are they saying something funny? Heck if I'll ever know, some of the mission complete texts are funny and show personality so I found the faction levels for dragon disappointing.

Edit: stupid is a bad choice, more annoying than anything. Are the other faction bonus's generic messages?

I must say I kinda like this game so far. For questing at least. It is a bit like SWTOR in that the story is the main attraction, but the quests are at least a bit different than "go there and get 10 bantha rat tails", and the game world is much much better than the corridors of SWTOR. Pretty sure my Buddy key runs out in an hour or so.. so I guess I'll enjoy it while it lasts. Made it to Illuminati Rank 2.5 or so in the 24 hours I had.

Although the PVP wasn't that interesting tbh, mostly just 'zerg zerg' until you died before you ran back and killed some before dying again.

I suspect this game could do good as F2P title, and they already have the store built. As long as they get a dedicated Russian server to protect the rest of the game world.
