Well, sprint costs seem to be self-gating, since it increases dramatically at each step. On the other hand, it seems absolutely essential for PVP. I've been running around a bit, abusing the huge exp boosts from the PVP zone, and it's virtually impossible to keep up with your allies if you're moving at normal speed and they're not. I'm at... 80k in cash, so I'm getting closer to affording it.

I'm still, after 8 hours of gameplay, wandering around Kingsmouth with barely anything done. This game seems to have a lot of content, above and beyond what I would have expected.

I've just moved to Savage coast, and its impossible to do anything right now due to the high volume of players right now, so my druid in DDO will be getting some of my time :-)

Also - I'm still curious about a Qt3 templar guild - Is there a such? I only know of the dragon one called S.M.A.L.L.S.N.A.K.E or somesuch ;-)

Well, the number of zones is comparatively small. They chose to make a small number of areas that are packed with content. Still they designed it in such a way that the expectation was the average player wouldn't do everything before continuing on (I think Joel Bylos said the number was 75-80%).

I like the idea of a smaller number of areas that feel more handcrafted.

The investigation mission called "Gravity" is making my brain melt. Spent 2 hours last night trying to complete this. Decided to log and try again tonight with a clear mind.

Some awesome missions though. "The Black House" has been one of my favorites so far.

Yeah, I'm really loving the game so far. It seems to be growing on me the more I play it, which is a good sign. I'm starting to really appreciate the combat system too.

"The Black House" mission was great! They really nailed the creepy ambiance of the house. And definitely read the lore. Some good if not disturbing stuff there too. :)

I will say that this is the kind of game that I will probably play until I exhaust all the PVE content and then quit and come back when an expansion is released. Assuming I don't finish all the content before my 30 days are up, I'll be paying a sub.

The game is akin to one long horror-detective-mystery-conspiracy novel. It is so unlike any MMO I have personally played to date. The Theme Park missions in The Savage Coast are very unsettling in a good way.

Have a look in store to disabuse yourself of that notion. Nice going, EA. Stash all the cool cosmetic content on your subscription based MMO behind separate real-world microtransactions. Unbelievable.

Pretty sure that's all FunCom. I think EA is only on board for distribution of physical copies.

Yeah, not a fan of the all the microtransactions on top of the sub fee. The least they could do is something like Guild Wars 2 where cash can be converted to store money and vice versa.

I do wish that there were more options in the character creator, with respect to clothes and especially heads/hair/etc. They have made plans to fix the latter known. I can understand that people don't want micro transactions on a fee-based game, but personally I'm all for it if it means we get more content updates and keeps the game going strong.

I think an ID screen like CoX had is sorely missing. I want to write up a background for my character.

Came across the first real bug I've noticed. The buy back screen ate a vendor was totally borked. I couldn't get all of my items back, it was showing items in my inventory in the buy back screen, then when you bought something back it was a different item etc. no other issues so far. Got sucked in and played for about 5 hours today with no clue how much time had gone by.

I thought this too, at first, but everything I wanted was actually in the London clothing store Pangea for in game currency rather than the RMT store.

I have looked at the store but have you gone to the vendors? The stuff the vendors have I feel is way cooler then their real money store. Just taking a quick look I'd wager that the vendors have 3x as much stuff as the online store has.

I strongly disagree that their Real Money store has cooler stuff. I don't want bunny slippers.

Yeah, not a fan of the all the microtransactions on top of the sub fee.
What microtransactions? Like being able to buy a pair of pants? WoW has let people buy pets and mounts for a while now so TSW isn't really doing anything new. You aren't buying levels or buying anything that impacts the game other then how you look.

I could really care less for the store because the prices are way too high but I really don't feel that they have put the best stuff in there.

Are there clothes vendors other than Pangea?

I am not sure but you also get outfits from the decks and you get clothing items from quests and stuff.

Hey, that's fine if you don't want the other stuff, or if you don't think it's cool. That's not really the issue, is it? The issue is that all sorts of cosmetic options are exclusive to the real-money store. This is a subscription based game that's also trying to cash in on the free-to-play business model. That rubs me the wrong way and makes me considerably less likely to invest my time, attention, and money.

Nothing I am can say will change your mind but it really is no different then say what WoW does with the mounts and pets it has in the store.

Also when you say exclusive you make it seem like you can only get a pair of sunglasses from the store when this isn't the case. There are a lot more eye glass options in the game store then in the real money store. The same goes with all the other clothing options. The store isn't pay to win its pay to look better while winning.

If you can look past the superficial store items the rest of the game is well worth your time and attention. ;)

BTW will you be posting a review of TSW?

Yeah, pretty much every cosmetic option is there in the shop. Also, its not like its as intrusive as, say the LOTRO shop which you can see everywhere. Here, its hidden in the menu or if you press a key.

I've actually bought a jacket through the store, but thats because for some reason I have 6000 bonus points, which I've no idea where I've gotten from.

    6000? Isn't that like 50 bucks?

Well Funcom points are shared among all of their published games. Maybe acquired earlier? Or if you bought the GrandMaster deal maybe it was given as a bonus?

Change my mind from what? A factual statement about the game's business model? Why would you want to change my mind about that? I suppose next you're going to tell me there's no subscription fee.

I couldn't care less if other games do it, too. I'll gladly complain in the appropriate thread if it would make you feel better!

Would you like me to make a list of the stuff that isn't available unless you pay? I can do that if you like. Alternatively, feel free to just open the store from within your game. It's even got a hotkey!

Again, if you don't mind the set-up, that's fine. But I don't understand why you're pretending it doesn't exist.

I will. EA's press embargo for this is really fruity. For whatever reason, they only offered press accounts to people who agreed not to write about the game until the official Tuesday launch. I'm actually not even supposed to say I'm playing it, so, uh...never mind.

I could make a list as well. I could make a list of all of the items that are available that you don't have to pay cash for which is nearly 3x the number in the cash shop.

Again, if you don't mind the set-up, that's fine. But I don't understand why you're pretending it doesn't exist.
I'm not at all actually. I don't understand why you are pretending the in game options (which there are more of and are cooler) aren't there.

Its cool though I get your point you don't think that games that have pay subscriptions should have fluff cash shops.

I don't mind the shop since everything in there right now is cosmetic. If someone wants to pay real money for an in game title, let em.

I love those missions. They include one of my all-time favorite tasks in an MMO quest: "Kill the Angry Clown."

    He has a chainsaw. (duh!)

There are, but everything sold anywhere is also sold at Pangea (a change they made in the last days of beta). It looks like they want London to be the social hub.

Because points were given out to closed beta testers for every dollar they spent on preordering the game and bonus packs. Smart move, because you will see people running around in the clothes. By the way, those points are not regular Funcom points (afaik they can only be spent on TSW) and are supposed to expire sometime in September. Check your email from around June 2, I think.

Hit my first quest bug, a holdover from beta which keeps coming back. I can't complete Tier 4 of Something Wicked. Very cool quest in other respects though I think i would have set up the Tiers slightly differently.
