It doesn't really matter, you're not gonna scratch the gorilla glass with your tidy whities.
The first hands-on experience with the new Smart Case over at The Verge did not come across as all that great. From what I read, the third party options sound superior. I'd recommend pretty much anything from Incipio or SwitchEasy.

The cleaning solution works great.
Probably a dumb question, but how do you guys typically move files onto your iPad? I'm so used to using USB flash sticks to move docs, pics, movies, etc. from computer to computer. Do you all use iTunes for everything?
Also - does iTunes work well for moving things off of the iPad to the PC?
What type of files were you thinking of moving around?
For the most part, I use Dropbox to get files on and off the iPad. I also tend to e-mail myself documents on occasion. I never use iTunes unless I have no choice. Most apps do allow you to transfer files through iTunes, but I find that experience extremely clunky. The better apps have their own syncing with a computer mechanism, and again, that's often Dropbox or iCloud-based. A few of the apps I own have their own built in WiFi-based syncing mechanisms. They run a little program on the PC side, and detect it on the iPad and then transfer files that way. Papers and ComicBookLover both do this, for example.
There are also specific file sharing apps. Avatron's Air Sharing comes to mind.
I stream video using Air Video.
I have 300+ apps on my iPad/iPhone so using iTunes to add files is kind of a pain as it chugs when it refreshes the springboard layout. Most of the good programs have Dropbox has their file system.
air video, subsonic/isub, goodreader, and drop box takes care of almost all content I care about. I think I might hook up my ipad to a pc once every 6 months.
Here's a really simple question. On my iPhone using the standard Facebook app, when I look at a posted photo and want to see the photo without the menu/options bars on the top and bottom I just tap the photo and I get the photo alone on the screen. That doesn't seem to work on the iPad Facebook app. Is there some trick every iPad owner but me knows?
Also when you get an app from the App store, only looking in the iPad section, how do you avoid apps that run in small/iPhone mode? Very frustrating to download what you think is a full screen iPad app and have it open up in small iPhone mode.
Thanks
For the app store question, if there is the little + in the price box, then its universal and will have an iPad layout available. Beyond that, I look at the screenshots. There is a compatibility listing on the left under the purchase button, but iPhone only apps list iPad as one of the compatible hardware specs most of the time (I'm pretty sure) so I rely on the screenshots.
EDIT: I'm an idiot and realize you can just look at the compatibility listing and see if it says iPad and only iPad under there (unless, of course, its a universal app).

Well I went ahead and bought the Apple smart cover and back that Denny recommended. No idea what to compare it with as it is the only iPad case I have had. Seems to do the job terms of covering the iPad and the smart on and off seems to work - though I am new enough I am not sure why that is a big deal.
Not real impressed with it as a stand.
It's not a great stand. The attraction of the smart cover is it's extremely light and thin, so you don't feel like you're lugging around a laptop and actually leave the damn thing on.
I purchased a case for the back (make certain you buy one that is compatible with the apple smart cover. Be careful because some of the cases will not allow you to remove the smart cover (they lock it into place).
Here is the case I ended up purchasing:
Speck Products SmartShell Ultra Thin Case for New iPad 3 - Clear SPKA1203
I mainly got it for the magnet on the back that keeps the apple smart cover in place. Have not received it yet but with Amazon's great return ploicy I am not worried. Price was 23 dollars.
Here is a video on youtube:

Whoops just saw the note where you purchased yours already. :>)
Have fun with it! Just got my iPad 3 for Father's day. It feels a lot lighter to me than the iPad 1 .
This ingenious $10 device fixes the Smart Cover's flaws as a stand. :)

Kind of lame that Apple didn't think of something like this and build it in.
Clever on the clips for the Smart Cover! Hope they make it.
Question: How in the heck do you import bookmarks from your PC Chrome to Dolphin HD? Or any other iPad browser? (And what do you use?)
I just use
https://www.google.com/bookmarks
for everything. There is a pretty nice extension for chrome and the bookmarklet works fine in safari on iOS.
You know, I got the 3G version, and I have never even once activated the 3G service. I have used my iPhone as a hotspot when I needed internet on it and wasn't near wireless.
I have had Verizon for my iPhone for quite some time. My wife has T-Mobile with her Galaxy 3S. I like Verizon, but they seem to be more expensive for the same plans than, say, T-Mobile.
I only own an iphone 4, but I would heartily recommend Puffin web browser for a full web browsing experience (full flash support for sites like hulu or dailymotion, being able to actually click hover menus etc.)

there's a lite version you can try first. I was sold after running flash video on a few sites.
One caveat: this is a cloud based application that renders websites in a tile based image system similar to google maps. If you have a data limit on your 3g/4g connection, you will burn through it pretty fast with this thing!
EDIT: old thread. derp!
The verizon LTE works great on my 4th gen iPad. Flawless service.
Whether you pick AT&T or Verizon depends on your area; poll your friends as to which offers better service. Sprint sucks everywhere.
I have a iPhone 5 on AT&T LTE and an iPad 3 on Verizon LTE. I think at&t is a bit faster and verizon seems a bit more reliable. Both are good but I like splitting my devices like that for a bit of redundancy in case one network has issues. I would say go with verizon for the ipad.
It really depends on your area. AT&T is terrible in NYC, for example. Ask your friends how they like their service.
This thread seems to have all of the iPad users right now. Hello iPad users!
This might be of interest to the OP as well (that's my excuse for the thread hijack). So is there a simple, straightforward app / way of sending a text message between an iPhone and an iPad (wifi only)? Or, hell, even between two iPads? All the iPad "messaging" apps I've found require you to register a phone number which then sends you an SMS activation code. This might work if I was back in Australia, but here in Europe I don't have global roaming, and my mum (whose iPad this is) doesn't have a mobile anyway. The only way we've thought of so far is to have Skype running in the background and send IM messages through that, but it doesn't half chew through the battery. I suppose Facebook IM would work as well, but my mum refuses to have a FB account (can't say I blame her). Besides, that's messy.
Surely there must be a simpler way, the perfect app that I've overlooked?
Oh btw, iMessage doesn't work at all in Cyprus for my mum. Refuses to accept her AppleID password, even though it works just fine for the AppStore. Googling informs us that we're not alone. Seems that option is out.
Crap. iMessage is the canonical answer for that.
Some of the AppleID stuff has regional constraints. Might be worth her giving Apple Support a call to see if they can help see what's preventing things from working.
Yes, imessage is the best way to do it.
You could also use SMS over Google Voice accounts, if you have them registered in the US.
Or you can install an instant messaging client for AIM, jabber, google talk, MSN, etc. Skype is the same deal. It shouldn't eat through your battery in the background with push notifications active.

Yeah iMessage is probably the best and most reliable method if you can get it to work.
I also often use google talk over beejive. I have the payed version but here is the free version that just supports gtalk:
