    Feel lucky?

    No.

I guess it would depend on the game. Caravan? You bet. I can kick ass and take names at Caravan. But a random roll of the die under the hood? I don't think so.

    Day 17 results:
Zombies cleared from an adjacent farm

    Day 18 missions:
Tim James and Jarrodhk scavenge 15 food from a farm (23% chance of mishap, 51% chance of finding an item)
    Delta tending crops
    Shieldwolf reclaiming newly cleared farm
    Ed Solomon reclaiming hospital
Nixxter, Jeansberg, and Kyrios on defense

If you win enough in one session you can clean the Gambler out and I think you get a fairly fancy item out of it. But it's not a good risk when it constitutes 2/5ths of your existing food supply.

I had a hard time reading the fonts on the iPhone 4 until I realize the game is Universal! Playing in the iPad is the way to go!

What a great value for $1!!!

Hey, that actually explains something I'd wondered about. I usually patrol one of my first soldiers in the police station from the very first turn. Since you start with only 4 squares, the protection bonus applies to all of them, and the chance of loss decreases dramatically.

Of course, you have fewer people to work with, but you're always shorthanded at the beginning, and you need to recruit any survivors in neighboring zones before you take them over, so I just prioritize that a little bit.

We found some of those bikers that took our food.

    What to do?

    Storyline commenced!

"Hey, Kyrios," Tim James calls as he comes through the front gate. He flips around a hunting rifle slung on his back. "Ho ho ho, now I have a rifle."

    "Why is that funny?"

    "No, it's from a movie."

    "Oh."

"Anyway, I found it. It's yours."

She looks at him expectantly as he holds the rifle out to her.

    "And these."

He hands her a plastic grocery bag weighted down with boxes of ammo.

"Now let's see that priest come in here and try to take out food again. Hey, you missed a spot, Delta," he says to the lawyer, bent over and sweating as he pulls weeds from rows of potatoes.

    Day 18 results:
Tim James finds a hunting rife and 15 rations of food

    Day 19 missions:
Tim James and Kryios scavenge for 10 food from a farmland (18% chance of mishap, 35% chance to find an item)
    Delta working the fields
    Ed Solomon building the hospital
    Shieldwolf building farmland
Nixxter, Jeansberg, and Jarrod on defense

Should I scavenge without scouting first? I'm not sure the value of wasting a turn just to scout when all I really need is to scavenge for food.

I also notice that if I put someone with a build skill (hammer) to tend a farm, there isn't any difference as putting someone without build skill. So what's the build skill then?

Build skill is for reclaiming land and building defences, mainly.

I believe the scavenge skill gets (slowly) increased when tending a farm. I haven't seen if a high level scavenger produces any extra food tending a farm though

Scouting tells you a) if there's enough food there to bother scavenging, b) if there's a survivor or survivors there, and c) how many zombies are there. It's purely opportunity cost. Zero risk. Also, the game claims scavenging or killing zombies without scouting is riskier - I don't know if that's because your danger percentage goes up because of an actual modifier, or just because you don't know how many zombies are there.

    Incoming!

No deaths. Well, no non-zombie deaths.

But Jarrod gets hurt and will be out of commission for three days.

Or will he? Jarrod situates himself in a comfy hospital and will get better after only two days.

    Also, we get another dog.

This one is way better than the pugs. It gives a full point to combat and a full point to leadership. Nixxter gets it. The pugs get shuffled around a bit.

"How come you get the new dog?" Delta asks. "Why can't I have the new dog?"

"You can have one of the pugs. We have two of them."

"I don't want a pug. Besides, I already have a megaphone. Kyrios gets a gun. Why can't I have a gun or a good dog?"

"This is a combat dog. You don't need a combat dog."

"Actually, I do need a combat dog. You guys already know how to fight. I'm the guy who needs a combat dog."

    "You have a megaphone."

"Okay, I'll take one of the pugs."

    "No, you have the megaphone."

"Hey, Kryios, I'll trade you this megaphone for that rifle."

"Why would I want a megaphone?"

"Jeansberg, I'll trade you the megaphone for that pug."

    "No thanks."

"Jarrod, you don't need that pug while you're in the hospital. Can I use it?"

"Okay, but I get it back when I get out."

"Do you want the megaphone while you're resting?"

"What do I want with a megaphone?"

"Come on, boy." Delta whistles at the little pug. The two of them head out into to the fields to weed the potatoes.

    Day 19 results:
    Jarrod injured in attack
    Lucky the dog discovered

    Day 20 missions:
Kyrios to clear 10 zombies from the adjacent farmland (18% chance of mishap)
    Tim James scouts a drive-in

    Thanks, Riffs!

    Day 20 results:
    None.

    Day 21 missions:
    Tim James scouting suburbs
Waiting for Jarrod to get out of the hospital, for Kyrios to kill the zombies in the adjacent farm, and for Shieldwolf to finish securing the other adjacent farm

Just got this. How can they sell games this good for only .$99? That model just doesn't make sense to me. Played three games so far and all were differnt, good experiences.

Is it a good idea to then spend 1 resource to continue scouting and opening up the fog of war? I spent too much time just holding the fort and after 40 days (on hard difficulty), I don't know what to do? My fort has sufficient food and I do hold on to the attacks (don't know for how long more) and I am lost as to what to do. I don't have enough people to expand and if I do take up some suburb, I don't have enough food... wait, I guess that's the point of the game... so should I scout more, for what purpose?

To find more food to feed more people to claim more land to get closer to your chosen method of surviving the apocalypse.

The "we are throwing a big party to waste food" event is kinda lame. At one point I had about 700 food in reserves. My guys were constantly partying, wasting 200 food a pop in those parties, for +5 happiness. Not worth it at all. By the end game my guys were starving. Can I put an armed guard outside the food storage? :)

I remember M.U.L.E. had this same mechanic if you were doing too well. "Space Pirates" wouls steal all your hard earned resources, leaving you worse off than your opponents, who you were previously beating.

There are worse things that can happen near the end game.
    Spoiler: end game

In at least one storyline path, people stop working or just off themselves at random.

(Shrug) It's not a story line path, either. It's what happens when you get low on one of your "resources". Found this out the hard way yesterday on my first complete "challenging" game (it didn't end well).

Sure it is. You may not have gone far enough down that path though.

    Spoiler: whee?
If you don't ban the book, and you let the author start preaching in the church, eventually people get really really happy about the cult and start voluntarily joining the zombies. Also you have a bunch of days where you don't do anything but religious celebrations.
