    Brian Rucker died this weekend

I'm sure many of you know Brian Rucker, who was a ten year veteran of these forums. My brother just sent me an email saying that his body was found over the weekend. The cause of death is currently unknown--an autopsy is planned. His last visit to QT3 was on Saturday, so whatever happened was sudden.

I only met Brian in person once, during a visit to my brother Rick's home in Virginia about ten years back. Rick and Brian worked together and he joined us on a trip to Kings Dominion, a big amusement park north of the city. Brian was a bit quiet and reserved at first, but, once he opened up, was a nice, funny, friendly, and clearly intelligent guy. We all had a good time that day. Living on the other side of the country prevented us from ever becoming close friends, but had he lived nearby, it could easily have happened.

    Rest in peace, Brian.

This seems unbelievable, was he sick? I don't mean any disrespect not do I wish to pry, this just seems so out of nowhere. He was very knowledgeable about many topics and I enjoyed his many deep posts about SW Galaxies, even though I never played. I will miss him, and pass along sympathies and best wishes to his family.

It's a complete shock to me as well. As far as I know, he was healthy. I'll post updates in this thread as I get them.

Wow, that's horrible. Rucker's war on science thread in P&R is one of my fave things in Qt3 history. What a terrible loss for the people who knew him.

Oh no ---- Brian was the kind of guy that, even when I was just skimming threads, I'd stop and read his.

    Wow. In shock right now....

Rucker was a gentleman and a scholar. He looked out for me when I had a need for mission essential information while deployed and used his own work resources to provide me the documentation I needed, at considerable expense and inconvenience to himself. All in return for nothing more than gratitude from a barely known person and the satisfaction of his own upstanding ethical code. The ripple effect from people like that is impossible to measure but keenly felt at these moments.

All that aside, he was a good poster and an obviously decent human being who went out of his way to engage others thoughtfully and do his homework before expressing an opinion. He will be missed. RIP.

Terrible, terrible news. Brian was always a must-read poster, one of the best voices in this community. If there's a charity or something for donations in his memory, please let us know.

This is truly saddening news. I did not know Rucker beyond Qt3 but he always represented himself as a person of character and was very genuine whenever he posted.

I would also, on behalf of several people who no longer post here, express condolences with the remark that not one person has anything but good thoughts regarding him and kind words in his passing. I would consider that a rare thing and worthy of note.

Condolences to his family and friends, of which I am certain he had many.

While I didn't know Brian particularly well, his posting was always of note and I held (and still hold) a great deal of respect for him. His voice will be missed in these halls.

Damnit. Brian was one of my favorite posters, and just seemed like a great person. Yes, I still got him confused with Brian Rubin at times, but they have both been really good sports about this. Rucker recently helped me with a SWTOR related question over PM. So I'd like to take this moment to thank him for providing endless enthusiasm about all things roleplaying related, for tirelessly advocating better storytelling in games, especially those that are player-oriented, for being willing to help out other members of the forum who were looking for similar experiences, for being a great guild member (I only know this second hand, but he was), and for his general contributions to this forum and the world at large.

    This really sucks.

I'll be sure to do that. Here's part of the last email I received from Rick, my brother, outlining the little that we currently know. When there's more, I'll post it, but it will probably be a few days.

I have no idea when the autopsy is being performed, and even then I'm sure it will be some time before the report is released to his brother, Kevin. At which time, we are bound to know something. My best guess would be that he had a heart attack, or slipped in the shower (which is where he was apparently found). I will let you know something as soon as I do.

    Damn.

It's bad enough when this sort of thing is expected.

His family and friends certainly have my sympathies.

It's a shame. I've been reading his old posts, he was an even keel in a stormy forum. Condolences to his loved ones.
