I'm sorry, but Benjamin Walker will always be President (Bloody Bloody) Andrew Jackson to me.
has a trailer up now. Looks like they're playing it totally straight and that it has a pretty big budget. I can't imagine this being any good, though...

The book was one of the most unintentionally funny things I've ever read.
So this isn't the new Spielberg movie?
I will watch the hell out of this.
This should have been released on President's Day.
Tim Burton means it will be weird but in a good way. Looks like a great way to kill a Sunday afternoon this summer.
So is Abe Lincoln a Slayer or something? Is he the chosen one in his generation? That crazy axe swing at the end shows that he possess more than the power of oration.
I finished the book just a few months ago, and thought it slightly more than "meh", maybe because I've read many better vampire books, many civil war books, and enough about Abe that it just didn't gel for me, expectations too high perhaps.
That said, I'll see the movie. It could be entertaining with lots of super-mega-suspension-of-disbeliefy type stuff, as the trailer indicates it might be. The end of the trailer suggests they've given Abe super-human strength (exploding a tree with an axe?) however, which he does not have in the book. As if the entire story idea isn't silly enough, that would be a bit much, so I hope they don't do that.
I thought this might be fun but it looks awful.
If the movie is fairly close to the book (which I enjoyed greatly), then it should be a good watch. If they add a bunch of unnecessary extras to appeal to the masses, it'll suck.
I'm not thrilled with bit where he's chopping down a tree in a single explosive blow, but other than that I think it looks fantastic.
Wait a second, isn't this the movie that was a joke in Party Down? It's a real thing?
Anyone seen this yet? I just made plans to go see it tomorrow afternoon!
:D
I've been wondering the same thing. Nonetheless, I'm also taking my wife to a showing tomorrow afternoon. It's got a 38% at Rotten Tomatoes, but both Ebert and Roeper have given it a thumbs up, and that's all I need.
The missus and myself went to see this yesterday. It was fun and we enjoyed it. I wouldn't put it up for any awards, but for a Sunday matinee after going out for a nice breakfast it worked just fine.
Some of the action scenes were pretty good. Bejamin Whatshisname is no Abe Lincoln when it comes to oration, tho, maybe because I always hear The DA from Law & Order's voice in my head ever since that Ken Burns civil war series when I think of Lincoln now.
He also didn't look tall enough.
Other than that it was fun, I liked Rufus Sewell in it, and the effects were cool. The burning trestle was great.
Like I said, a fun summer movie.
I enjoyed most of the book, had a few chapters that stood out as rather horrible, but a few rather great. The movie went off the rails early from the book and while it might be okay popcorn viewing, I would not recommend it.
I've heard it described as another "Van Helsing", which is enough to keep me away.
Looks like this bombed pretty badly, taking in just 16.5 mil in its opening weekend.
"Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is easily the worst thing to ever happen to President Lincoln in a theater" -- Jason Funk
Damn that's low. Lol.
wow...
I laughed, but I felt bad too. I think all the Lincolns died out so it's all good (last one died in 1985, childless and safely vasectomied according to wikipedia).
I want to see this, but not enough to get up off of my chair and drive to the theater. If it's a question of a few HTPC mouse clicks...I'm there!
(edit for math error and slight revision)

I think I saw Abe Lincoln - Zombie Killer or something somewhere--must be an Asylum knockoff movie.
