Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch was arrested for suspicion of DWI in CA last weekend. Given his issued in Buffalo a few years back it could very possibly mean he will get a suspension if he is found guilty. Its not clear if it will impact this season, though, as it could be some time before a trial. Either way its unfortunate since he's been by all accounts a better character since arriving in Seattle.

It may be unfortunate but if the accounts are true he very nearly had a couple of accidents while driving drunk.

There is every reason to believe right now that the legal side of Lynch's situation will not impact this season. His court date and such won't happen for some time. So unless the commissioner decided to suspend him for something that he hasn't been convicted of yet (which the NLFPA won't be in favor of), he will probably be clear for this year.

Another angle to this is that technically DWI's are considered a seperate issue under the CBA from the other kinds of issues Lynch has been involved in. They are part of the substance abuse policies, meaning it could be argued that Lynch is a first-time offender in this area and thus subject only to a fine and counseling. Again, it appears this is the NFLPA's position.

On the other hand a bunch more NFL players have been arrested for DUI's in the last few days as well so who knows what Goodelll will feel he needs to do.

With the new season, is there anyway to give the NFL money to watch live games without having any sort of cable TV/satellite yet?

    Besides actual game tickets?

    I doubt it.

Doesn't DirecTV have some deal where you can buy some internet-based Sunday Ticket package without actually getting a dish and a TV package? (Or is that only a special-exception deal for people who can't get DirecTV for some reason?)

    NFL Game Pass?

Edit: Speaking of Game Pass, people in the Netherlands can get a complimentary subscription for pre-season and regular season games. Works if you use a Dutch VPN.

I think it was special exception but they might have changed that. They have the Sunday ticket app on the PS3. But I don't have DirecTV. I'll need to check that out. I would definitely consider $300-400 bucks they charge for just to get games. Especially living here where I get random games each week.

Also to answer the question, OTA. Most games are still on network television but again like me you'll be subject to the whims of the network. Not so bad if you're in the local market for your team.

For $20 you can watch (apparently) all the pre-season games live or later on your computer or tablet.

Sadly not. (NFL Game Pass is not available in the US or Mexico.)

I almost bit on Game Rewind for $35. As a Giants fan living in New England I'll have five games blacked out this year. Being able to watch the game later in the afternoon would be preferable to watching some shitty illegal feed. Unfortunately, games are not available to be watched until after Sunday Night Football concludes and then they are blacked out during Monday Night Football. So, realistically, short of staying up 'til three in the morning, the earliest I'd be able to watch a game on Rewind would be Tuesday evening. Ridiculous.

I believe they lowered the price this year to $200, and if you're a new subscriber, they throw in Sunday Ticket for free. For DTV, it's all about acquiring and retaining subscribers.

Fuck brittle Ryan Matthews and all his 'potential'. We thought we had dodged the bullet earlier in the week when he had a little 'fender bender' but appeared unscathed. Now after the first pre-season it's a broken clavicle and 4 - 6 weeks.

At least you still have Mike Tolb--wait, who else do the Chargers have now?

    Ronnie Brown?

Durability is just so overrated in a RB, right?

Sarcasm aside, Eightball, I believe that is the point I am trying to make. We were pretty fucking spoiled by Tomlinson for so long who, up until the very last, you could pencil in for a full 16 game season. This guy Matthews goes on the DL if someone looks at him sideways. Yeesh.

Yeah, so now it's up to Ronnie Brown and... Jackie Battle? Plus Le'Ron Mclain. None of whom were with the Chargers last season. And maybe Jacob Hester a bit more who, truth be told, I kind of like.

Based on last night's performance, I think it's safe to say that RGIII has moved ahead of Rex Grossman on the Redskins QB depth chart.

I know. You would think they'd have started grooming a young backup since Matthews is apparently made of glass. At least McClain isn't terrible.

I really, really like RG3. That's also why I've convinced myself he will get ruined soon.

Can that dude even catch, still? I certainly didn't see any evidence of it when he was up here last season.

    It's time 85 was 86'd.

My first thought when reading this was "ooh, Hard Knocks will be especially interesting next week."

    Am I a bad person?

Edit to say: ok, it's for domestic violence, which I did not know at the time. That sucks, and now I feel bad. If he did abuse his wife I hope they get it straightened out and I hope she's ok.

If you didn't see last week's Hard Knocks -- which obviously took place before this week's nonsense -- there were a few interesting moments worth bringing up:

    - Chad Johnson had some kind of casual media session, where he dropped the F-bomb a half dozen times and joked about how he'd go into porn if he got cut. At some point, he realizes he's been cursing a lot, but then says, eh, you guys can always bleep it. Someone asked how his wife would feel about him doing porn, and he joked that she had no say in the matter, because "gotta provide for the family."

    - Later, there's a coaches session where Johnson's flurry of F-bombs is mentioned to head coach Joe Philbin. They raise the question of whether this is how they want the Dolphins organization represented.

    - This leads a one-on-one on the sidelines of a practice where Philbin tries to offer Johnson some guidance, but my god, it's a train wreck. Philbin is all over the map and can barely look Johnson in the eye at any point. It's like watching an uncomfortable dad struggle to talk to his kid about sex. He's a head coach, and looks like he has zero clue how to talk to an athlete if it's not about running a route. Ugh.

This team is boned, from the owner all the way down.
