What a bunch of clownshoe amateurs.
What a bunch of clownshoe amateurs.
By the way, can't we just have one thread and use spoiler tags? I don't get the need for two threads now that there's spoiler tags.
Wait, so the game has been pirated before it's even released? That sucks. That can't be too common.
OMG, Amazon is shipping my order now, and it'll be here tomorrow! YAY!
I've not been this excited to get a game in a very long time.
So stusser, you must tell us how it is!
Lucky! If I had a PC that could run this I might've gotten this on PC, but it looks so good on my big TV too...
Just a few points of "warning":
- There seems to be so much content that overleveling is possible (at least in the few hours we played, not sure how the EXP curve evolves)
- With that in mind, it might not be the best idea to randomly explore every dungeon one finds as this will make it even more likely to "outlevel" content and drops
- Furthermore, usually there are quests associated with these dungeons so you'll have to go back later and it seems chests don't respawn full
Finally, overlevelling makes enemies way too easy/boring even on hard.
By overlevelling do you mean levelling too quickly so as to outpace your potential opponents?
I'm not sure whether we did the quests in the wrong order or whether we outpaced our potential opponents but some quests were definitely reduced to being boringly easy, even on hard.
It's possible we moved to the second "outpost" too quickly and fought some truly hard-as-nails battles (on hard) and were very pleased with the difficulty, but apparently it may be better finish up one outpost before accepting any new quests anywhere else. But even so I think one would still easily outpace enemies.
Huh, well THAT'S not good...
I just saw Curt Shilling pitch (sorry) the game on Jim Cramer's show of all places. It turns out that Curt is a complete and utter nerd, WWII Buff, use to carry D&D manuals around in school, got hooked on Evercrack etc. It is kinda of too bad that he is was cursed with hell of a pitching arm, I am sure he would have fit in well on QT3.
As for the game I still haven't finished Skyrim so this one is almost certainly going to wait for the Steam sale. However, the IGN review does look promising and good story would be a plus in an RPG.
My luck as of late... my Steam demo download finished 1 minute before I headed into work for the evening... I guess I'll play tomorrow morning. :|
Steam preload is working now.
Just spent the past 5 hours or so straight playing, completely finishing the first town. It's more gamey than Skyrim, with chests littered about, and you can't pick up everything in sight, but... it's in the same ballpark. It's worthy of being mentioned in the same sentence as Skyrim. Amalur is a truly excellent CRPG.
I'm going straight mage. Interestingly, magic appears to blow chunks. The lightning spell takes so much mana that I can only cast it once, and the fire "mark then explode" spell appears to be totally nonfunctional. It just does nothing at all. However, the melee combat (stave+shield) and ranged (sceptre) work great, and I"m hoping that spells later on are actually worth using.
Inventory space is a total bitch, particularly since the preorder DLC gave me like 15 purple melee-only items that sit in my inventory consuming space. Save up for backpacks first thing.
Make sure you're holding the button for fire spell after you mark with it. It's actually pretty strong.
I can't figure out how to use it. I equip the fire spell, point at a monster and click the RMB, and a little puff of fire comes out of my hand. They don't appear to be "marked". Do you need to be fairly close-by to use it? If you can only use it in relatively close combat, whats the point of a 2-stage ability that marks then detonates?
There just seems to be no reason to use actual magic spells at all when I can just machine-gun sceptre at range then staff/shield in melee. I'm hoping that changes when I get chain lightning, to take out multiples at range.
Not that I could find. I tried to put all that crap back into the DLC chest, but it wouldn't let me.
You get player housing with a stash that can hold 155 items later.
Within 5 hours we had a house with storage although we patly skipped the demo-town, so don't despair.
Finally steam is pre-loading.
The Eurogamer review is up: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...ckoning-review
It's a contrasty read. They are less impressed by the setting and characterisation than by the engine the world is built on. But it seems like there is a lot to enjoy there and they like it.
One thing hasn't changed from the demo (from a screenshot caption): "In conversation, your mute and supremely bored-looking character can say anything you like - as long as it's acquiescent, stroppy or mean." :|

Is there anything resembling companions, pets or a party?
It's dangerous to go alone!
