I'm debating on this one. As I recall, this now has the 3 activation limit (with non-graphics card hardware changes taking up a new one), and that every 30 days after you run out you get one added back to your regular total. Seems fairly reasonable for a Ubifail game (better than "always on," at least). It's still a little pricey for my blood, but I've been looking fondly upon the game from a distance for some time now.

How reliable is Ubisoft these days? I've heard some horror stories about dropped connection or inaccessible server that made the DRM a real pain.

Does the gameplay more than make up for the dreaded DRM? Also are the DLCs aesthetic or do they add something to the gameplay?

heh - Kildar, we posted at the same time. I believe this one now does not have the "always on," but you have to use up an activation when you install.
PS - this is just to the best of my knowledge

EDIT: apparently when you play offline, you don't have access to your Ark upgrades. Seriously, Ubifail?

Damn, I missed it. Guess I'll have to wait for the next sale.

Lol. Thanks. This constant-on requirement is a pain in the behind. Its bad enough I keep getting DCed in D3 just when the going gets good, but to get DCed from a city building game and lose out on some features when I paid money for it (albeit on sale though) sucks.

I think I'll shy away from this one and not give Ubisoft my money.

Steam's daily deal is...Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity. USD 9.99 50% off.

My private metagame: I'll post a game from my backlog as a reason for not buying the game on sale, due to similarity or ironic reasons.
    Today's backlog game: Homeworld.

Definitely the first one. It has the best graphics, the best cities to explore, and the best combat. The second didn't live up to the potential and was a huge let down for me.

2nd one was best by miles, reflected by the critics and users reviews as well, except for one person above ;)

Yeah, the first AC was very pretty, but II was very nicely fleshed out. And FFS play it in Italian with English subtitles because the "Italian" accents of some of the characters are all over the place, particularly the uncle guy, who sometimes sounds like Danny Trejo on a bad day.

Hoping for the 75% deal actually. I can wait a little longer, though. No lack of available awesome games to play for this man. I can wait. Come to me, oh perfect priceling of Anno, come to me... patience is my highest virtue...

I'm all over that Anno 2070 deal. Been putting off buying at full price because I didn't have time for it anyway. Now I do and why yes, I would like 50% off!

Regarding Anno 2070 - do I want any of the DLC (which is also 50% off)?

I would recommend just the DLCs that include extra scenarios. The new "toys" aren't at all necessary IMHO.

I was reading up on the last batch of DLC, and if I understand it correctly, NONE of the Nordamark DLC include new scenarios, just toys - skip them all.

I'm I correct that the E.V.E Package (in Nordamark) simply includes a "red glowing" portrait of E.V.E.? THATS IT? Ubisoft wants me to pay $4.99 for a PORTRAIT for my AVATAR?

What ARE those guys smok'n over there?

This is a really good deal. That's an amazing amount of gaming, and some hilarious writing in an otherwise straightforward RPG plot.

Two out of the five are worth playing -- the original game, and the first expansion. The rest are just license exploitation fodder that were not created by PCF.

The sound design in that early graveyard level of Painkiller freaked me right out, what with the half-heard whispers and low growls. Brrrrr.

This brings me back. 35 years ago I played Moonlander on a DEC GT40 with a light pen (Moonlander on a DEC GT40). The only time I've played a game with a lightpen. It reminds me of the stylist I have with my PDA. Now everybody uses fingertouch smartphones. There's a red thread there somewhere!

Meanwhile I bought Plants vs Zombies on steams weekend sale - 75% off. Sorry, that sale has closed.

The darn good Dead Island is $12 through Thursday on Steam.

Also all three Thief games for $13.50, or less individually.

$25 sets you up with some awesome gaming. Nice set of deals.

I'd jump all over that Dead Island deal if I had time for it. I think it is the game discussed the longest on the Quartertothree podcast. For other games, like Batman: Arkham City, it's "oh we've already discussed that game last week, so let's discuss something else", but for Dead Island, it was a game of the week before it was out, and discussed extensively, then it was a game of the week after it came out, then it was a news story of the week, and then it was a game of the week again, I believe.

I will have to try it out some day, just to see how I feel about Moresby. Hearing Chick & McMaster talk about the game for so long, I just have to see certain parts of it myself.

My gut tells me that Dead Island is the best multiplayer open world RPG. I may be wrong, though.
