The AI has certainly improved since the game came out, but if you're looking for a challenge from it you're better off looking elsewhere. However, you might want to consider picking it up anyway just for the fact the expansion is suppose to improve the AI dramatically (among other things, like adding religion).

Personally, the lacking AI doesn't bother me as much as it does other people and I feel it's an otherwise stellar Civilization game.

Yeah ... when people say the AI isn't good, that's not to say it does buggy things like leaving an army permanently embarked or walking an unescorted general right up to some barbarians. Rather, it just doesn't plan as well as you or I would.

The game is quite fun for those looking to sandbox, less so for those looking to do serious wargaming.

You got me to buy EndWar (albeit for only $2.50) but I think I'm pretty safe here. I can resist this one.

Personal favorite Dungeon Siege 3 is $15 as a PC download on Amazon. Steamworks.

Average customer review: 2 stars! I sure know how to pick 'em.

FWIW, I love it too. I really don't understand the hate. Well, I do understand the hate from Dungeon Siege fans, since it's not much like the other Dungeon Siege games, but, well...that's a good thing, if you ask me.

However if that is what you are expecting, then yes, it would be a huge disappointment. The only similarity between DS3 and DS 1 / 2 is the name. They should not have named it Dungeon Siege anything. In its own right, it isn't a bad game though.

People are definitely still playing. Yes, you should like it as long as you skip the SP.

BF3 is a really good time, I think. I can't imagine any fan of online military manshoots not digging it.

Personally I felt like I overspent when I picked up RAGE for $15. I would have been more content if I had waited till it was $5. It was resoundingly uninspiring imo.

Everytime Amnesia goes on sale I'm tempted to pick it up. Then I remember how much of a wuss I am when it comes to scary games and I back down. Ah well.

So quick impression, what game is DS3 most like then? I enjoyed DS1 and DS2, but burned out on that style of game with DS2. I wouldn't mind something different.

If you can't handle scary games, Amnesia won't be for you. Though it's really only scary for the first third or so. Once you get used to dodging the creatures, it loses some of it's punch.

But, whoa, if you're prone to game-induced motion sickness, Amnesia is a doozy. I could only manage an hour or so at a time and then I had to lie down for a while.

I can't think of another PC game quite like it. It's halfway between a Diablo 2 hack and slash and an action rpg. You get loot and level up a few abilities, but you also need to roll and block. Obsidian gives it a decent story as well. It does play best with a controller. You also only control one character, a big difference from past Dungeon Sieges.

    Steam demo.

Isn't the motion sickness thing usually fixable by editing the FOV (please tell me that's possible)?

I picked up Need For Speed The Run for $20 on Origin. This game is actually pretty damn awesome. Amazing environments and graphics, like a super updated Cruisin' USA.

Definitely worth it for $20, IMO.

I also enjoyed The Run. There's a lot of stupidity (particularly the egregious rubber-banding), but if you play racers to go crazy fast through lively tracks, it's a lot of fun. Great licensed soundtrack, too.

Well, that crosses Amnesia off my list. I've come close to buying it several times, so thanks for the feedback.

Well, I thought the environments were pretty but the gameplay was repetitive and samey.

I wish I could remember. I tried a bunch of different settings, but nothing fixed it for me. I was still getting nauseous all the way through.

Well, I don't want to lead anyone away from this game. It's really good, and it was worth it to me to deal with the sickness since I finished the game. I tend to be pretty susceptible to motion sickness, depending on the game...you might be just fine.
