Silas Redd talking to USC about transferring. While there's plenty of irony there, that would be the first big blow to Penn State as far as player defections go.

The elderly. Well, OK, but what they lack in passion, they make up for in blinkered obstinacy and a fierce commitment to beets. Thankfully, being middle-aged, I have neither of these problems.
An interesting father-son contrast between Christian Hackenberg -- "At the end of the day, if there's football at Penn State, I'm going to be there" -- and his dad: "There are times where you know you need to cut bait instead of keep fishing."
Hehehe, fracking, hehehehe
Fracking football!
University of Michigan has (re)offered scholarship to Ross Douglas. I'm guessing other schools have as well. He's coming to town this weekend for some sort of cookout the program is having.
Yeah, it has to be tough on the seniors. It will be hard to transfer and be ready in time with another team. And then there's the whole degree thing. They'll have to be assured their credits will transfer and will apply to a similar degree.
If I was a senior who didn't have pro aspirations I'd think about staying, keeping my scholarship, and not playing.
The constant images of grief stricken students and alumni crying and wailing about the unfairness of it all are really starting to annoy the shit out of me. Granted, there are a small group of students who I feel have every right to feel they've been treated unfairly, and that's the current players and incoming freshmen. Their collegiate lives have been turned upside down through no fault of their own and it sucks. The entire rest of the student body and all the alumni need to shut the fuck up like yesterday. They need to recognize the perspective here, the university itself is not banned from giving out degrees or educating students, it's a goddamn football team. If Joe Paterno and the Nittany Lions mean that much to someone not directly affiliated with the program then perhaps those people should reconsider their priorities in life.
I also feel bad for every other student athlete at Penn State, as from the response in Happy Valley you would think football was the only sport at the school.
It isn't?
Penn has a really good women's volleyball program. Honest, it's one of the best in the country and almost certainly the best east of the Mississippi.
One of the best in the nation, actually.

We only had one sports program at my university worth talking about at the time, and that was basketball. I don't need to mention the school so much as the coach for anyone to figure out what happened: Jerry Tarkanian (who went on to accumulate suspensions for any school he coached at after that). Tark the Shark broke the rules, fled in advance of the coming investigations to Vegas, and left Long Beach State holding the bag. Shrug - I was there to get an education. Any school that pissed and moaned about how unfair it all was after that didn't get a whole lot of sympathy from me.
Football AND women's volleyball at one university? Penn State is, like, the Florence of our time.
Bad but still amusing:

HAhaha, totally stealsing.
I love rob's reply about the library, very apt.
Tweeted by Penn State:
Umm yeah I think SMU was fucked over much worse than you guys. I don't think that's even open to debate."This team has taken on more adversity than any team has faced in history, which is a testament to our commitment to our team's character, our fans, and our university."

Former Penn State President, the AD, and a VP were charged with felonies today for the cover-up.
Yay!56
That question was explicitly asked and the DA dismissed it as irrelevant, saying that Paterno's dead and these guys are alive.
I wonder what effect this will have on Spanier's sooper sekrit government job?
