Well I guess the execs thought it was the "safe" option, not unlike the thinking of games companies wanting to invest in established franchises more often than risking it on new stuff.

I've seen episodes 1-4 so far, and the cancellation has me wondering if I'm 2 episodes from a very frustrating cliffhanger. Please tell me it doesn't end with someone saying "I have dramatic answers/new questions!!......" TO BE CONTINUED

Yeah. It resolves the original storyline but it has some pretty big implications that are apparently destined to be no more than hinted at.
