As I said in my little essay on nhs, my sample size is about 9-10 hours. It certainly could attack cities I just haven't seen it yet. The wandering creatures definitely will.

But the AI plays an expansive turtle/react game from what I have seen thus far. It plays that game pretty well but I wish it was more aggressive.

    Bill -

I read there was an A.I. patch released today. Is your experience before or after?

I could have sworn King Rat aggressively attacked one of my cities in the demo. It was pretty close in to where his main cities were, so we were all swirling about in the area. But I remember expanding too aggressively and getting stomped.

The game I am basing my comments on was started yesterday. I've had a build for about a week. (or so) If there was a last minute patch then I didn't play it yet.

And like I said it's not a definitive criticism but I've never seen the AI assault a city. I've seen the wandering monsters do it a lot. And I have seen the AI expand like crazy and defend itself very well. But a full on attack? I haven't seen it yet. Take a look at that image I captured (http://www.nohighscores.com/wp-conte...ap-640x360.jpg)

I invaded that area and sat there for a long time. One city sits ungarrisoned and the other has one dude in it. The orange player (AI) has a LOT of units in his area. I know. I attacked and lost.

Still, if there's a new build I need to give that a play tonight. I really do like a lot of stuff in this one, so I hope they tweaked it.

In my first game that I'm still playing right now, I've seen a 'monster faction'(not a rival warlock) capture a neutral city.

The 2 rival AI factions are putting up a good defense, but they are not actively trying to capture my cities.

The most dangerous thing in this game seems to be stumbling onto a powerful monster. It's best to stand and die like in Everquest rather than train them back to your cities though, hehe.

I found a big spider that can cast a spell called 'web' that will basically instantly kill any of the units I currently have out, so I have been giving it a wide berth.

Paying close attention to the enemies 'sight radius' is key to avoiding most disasters.

It's possible the AI might become aggressive when they get the higher tiered units, because capturing a high level city without good units and siege, even in the demo was nigh impossible.

Here's the Out of Eight review. James says 6/8. Looks like he likes it for what it is. 4X with magic and a competent A.I. He likes it better than he did Elemental. ;)

Independent neutral archers attacked one of my cities. As did one of those flying critters.....

Capital cities have 250 hit points. That seems a lot higher than I remember from the demo. I have a ton of warriors and archers at an enemy capital and I'm pretty much just spinning my wheels. I'm thinking I need to find some siege weapons quick.

I hope this means "it plays fine on XP", but we don't want to deal with it.

Because why have a demo which plays on XP if the full game won't?

I didn't have a game go from "huh?" (or, to be honest, in this case more than "ah, I remember a QT3 thread about it") to "purchased" in such a short timeframe. It's no MoM, but wonderfully polished, varied and 15 euros directly at release? Where's the catch?
Games like this and Grimrock should set a trend: make a polished game, and release it at a decent price, and I'll not even hesitate to buy it, even at release.
I hope for some patches, addons and/or modding (seems not likely, though), but I can totally say it's worth the price tag even without any of those things.
    $0.02 and all.

It's the morning of the 9th, I've downloaded the game from Gamersgate but steam is still not registering it (and I've restarted steam a couple of times). Is there some sort of Australian curse whenever software is concerned?

Did you pay 3x the USA Steam price? I believe that is a requirement for games to run in Australia. :)

Keep in mind that losing the capital means that opponent is defeated. So I think it makes sense to make that tough. I found even mid-level cities (say 8-10 population) take 8-10 turns to reduce. I haven't built any catapults yet though.

I built some Mages, which I hadn't had a chance to play with in previous games. They are quite dangerous -- 13 elemental attack with an option to upgrade by 20% at first level up. The nice thing about elemental damage is most regular opponents don't have any resistance. Upkeep is pretty high though 5 gold, 1 food, and 3 mana per turn.

That's my impression. Developer posts on the forum have suggested it really is a "we don't want to provide tech support" issue, and as far as they know it works fine on XP. No guarantees of course.

I just found out catapults cost 200 gold. That's pretty expensive, especially since I've been blowing all my money on Fine Armor for all my dudes.

I don't have the game but I'm intrigued by this - Is it like dinner armor?

Anyways - as for endgame - Am I the only one who found Moo2's solution (The galactic council) to be an elegant solution to this? Something like that could easily be implemented in most games, making sure you don't have to slog through the annoying last few hours.

I'm not sure you even have to download it from Gamersgate, although I did that too. Have you tried just entering the code into steam?

I decided to go for Dwarfs instead of Catapults because they can move faster and have more HPs but they're melee instead of ranged though so I need to be a little careful with them. I always liked making them in Majesty 2 anyway.

Fuck, I can feel my will eroding. Amazon has this for $18. Someone please tell me the AI sucks before I buy it.

Edit: Never mind. Just read a post on the Steam forums that killed my interest in this game :(

I can't figure out how to turn animations off. Tell me I am missing something and that the devs aren't that stupid.

I think you may have to click through them. I believe that was a few pages back. Yeah, kinda silly.

Well I tried my best, I had their capitol city surrounded for 20 solid turns every single hex filled with my units and I still could not capture it. Fortunately my unit of dwarves just rolled up and started pounding on the city. It's not going to last long now.

I see my big mistake was that I didn't bring any archers to siege the city initially, because I thought they would be useless vs the skeletons. Range is actually really good when you are laying siege to a city.

My melee units were useless because he kept summoning a powerful Ghost Wolf unit that was raping my guys. So I just tossed the occasional spell nuke and waited for my siege unit to show up.

This post is at least partially wrong the enemy AI does have vision of enemies. In fact it prefers to kill neutrals and monsters more than it does my units usually.

    Someone lied on the internet.
